Huntsman, who has been suspended, was a vice president of the state police union for more than two years, said Andrew Matthews, president of the union. Huntsman resigned as soon as the allegations were reported, Matthews said.
Sgt. Andrew Matthews, president of the Connecticut State Police Union, said the troopers knew they'd be vulnerable to the layoffs after voting against the two-year wage freeze. They did support the benefits changes. But Matthews said they're disappointed Malloy decided against rescinding the layoff

State Police Reject Wage Concessions, Plan Monday Rally
"We're not trying to be difficult," said Sgt. Andrew Matthews, president of the union, which includes 1,083 troopers, sergeants and master sergeants. "We gave a lot in the past." Matthews said troopers had gone without a general wage increase in 2009 and without their step increases in 2010.
It's a concern not only for public safety, which is critical to the service we provide, but its also critical to the troopers safety too, Andrew Matthews, president of the state police union, said.
