Abstract:
To make a foot orthotic device shaped to correct the plantar surface of a patient's foot from an appropriately shaped body, that body is made by taking measurements of various characteristics of the patient's foot directly from that foot, including measurements of various aspects of the patient's arch, generating a model of the plantar surface of the foot from these measurements, then modifying this model in accordance with a practitioner's corrective prescription, and using those modified measurements to control a shaping device such as a milling machine to produce on said body a three-dimensional surface constituting the desired corrected shape for the patient's plantar surface.

Abstract:
A hinge having first and second plates each having a plurality of cam slots therein and being connected to upper and lower portions of a brace. The hinge also includes cam pin followers which are connected to the first and second plates and the lower portion of the brace such that they cooperate with the cam slots allowing the lower portion of the brace to rotate through a predetermined angular range relative to the upper portion of the brace with a constantly changing axis of rotation.

Abstract:
An improved shoulder brace having a pair of shock absorbing saddle assemblies and cups for protecting the acromioclavicular and glenohumeral joints is disclosed herein. Each saddle assembly includes a resilient, ring-shaped member for seating over and conforming to its respective acromioclavicular joint. The cups overlie each saddle assembly, and form a shock absorbing air space over each saddle assembly. Additionally, each cup includes anterior and posterior portions for protecting the front of the glenohumeral joint, and the back of the scapula respectively. Finally, each saddle assembly includes an upper arm pad which is attached to its respective saddle by means of an omni-directional hinge joint. The improved shoulder brace provides lightweight and effective protection for the shoulder joints without impairing the agility of the athlete.
Lightweight, Compact Orthotic Device For Controlling Knee Instabilities

International Classification:
A61F 504
US Classification:

Abstract:
An orthotic device for controlling knee instabilities is disclosed herein that comprises a joint structure, upper and lower support assemblies including C-shaped bands for supporting the joint structure over the knee, an L-shaped condyle pad assembly having an upper portion for supporting the inner condyle region of the knee and an anterior extension for supporting the upper tibia against tibial displacements, and a mounting means including a V-shaped resilient strap for maintaining the upper portion of the condyle pad assembly in intimate supporting contact with the condyle region throughout the entire range of pivotal movement of the knee.
Orthotic Device For Controlling Knee Instabilities
An improved orthosis for correcting essentially all knee instabilities is disclosed herein. Generally, the orthosis comprises a joint structure formed from a pair of pivoting sidebars, upper and lower support assemblies, each of which includes C-shaped braces connected to the sidebars of the joint structure for supporting the pivoting portions of the sidebars over the knee joint, and a tibial retention means in the form of a Y-shaped tibial support member cantilevered from the bottom brace member of the lower support assembly for supporting the upper tibia against anterior displacements. The orthosis may further include resilient condylar pads disposed between the sidebars and the condyle regions of the knee in order to provide support against varus- and valgus-type knee instabilities. Finally, the orthosis may also include a femural retention means in the form of a Y-shaped member cantilevered from the upper C-shaped brace member for supporting the upper femur. The upper and lower C-shaped members and their respective tibial and femural support members are preferably integrally formed, and lined with an anti-slippage sheet material such as Neoprene. RTM.
