Abstract:

The present invention is based upon the discovery that nontitanyl oxalates can enhance the catalytic functionality of titanyl oxalate catalysts. This invention provides a novel catalytic composition containing a titanyl oxalate catalyst and a metallic oxalate catalyst enhancer and optionally containing a metallic cocatalyst such as an antimony based catalyst. A synergistic relationship has been discovered between titanyl oxalate catalyst and the catalyst enhancer. A synergistic relationship has also been discovered between the titanyl oxalate catalyst, catalyst enhancer and a metallic cocatalyst such as antimony oxide or antimony triacetate. Also provided is an improved process of producing polyester by the polycondensation of polyester forming reactants in the presence of a catalytically effective amount of a polycondensation catalyst, wherein the improvement comprises utilizing, as the polycondensation catalyst, the novel catalyst composition containing a titanyl oxalate such as lithium titanyl oxalate and a catalyst enhancer such as a nontitanyl metallic oxalate like lithium oxalate and optionally containing a metallic catalyst such as antimony oxide or antimony triacetate. The improved process produces an improved polyester having lower acetaldehyde numbers and good color. The titanyl oxalate/catalyst enhancer composition can be used as a polycondensation catalyst in combination with other catalysts to achieve synergistic catalytic activity.

Abstract:

Methods, systems, and computer program products for computational polymer processing including, without limitation, computational amphiphilic polymer design, conformational energy minimization, generation and refinement of torsional parameters for sub-units of potential polymers, generation of modified force field parameters, and prediction of conformational information for potential polymers. A target polymer backbone or portion thereof is identified. Small model compounds that have structural connectivities that are similar to structural connectivities of the target polymer backbone or portion thereof, are identified, whereby the combination of the small model compounds serve as a model of the target polymer or portion thereof. Gradient-corrected density functional theory (“DFT”) torsional potentials are calculated for the small model compounds, wherein energies are calculated at unconstrained and constrained geometries of the selected small model compounds. New torsional parameters are then obtained from the DFT torsional potentials.

Abstract:

A catalyst composition for preparing polyesters comprises a titanium compound and one or more catalyst enhancers. The titanium compound may be either a titanyl compound of the formula XTiOYor a titanium salt of the formula XTiY, where each X is independently selected from the group consisting of H, Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba and ammonium; m=0, 1 or 2; Y is a ligand of the formula CHO, wherein a=1 to 30, b=0 to 60, and c=1 to 10; and o=2, 3, or 4. The catalyst enhancer may be selected from either or both of two classes: 1) compounds selected from the group consisting of oxalate and C1-C26 carboxylate salts of Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Be, Ca, Mg, Sr, and Ba; and 2) compounds selected from the group consisting of soluble compounds of Al, Co, Zn, and Sn.

Abstract:

Several micro-machined, ultra-profile two-axis and three-axis accelerometers are fabricated by CMOS-compatible process, which makes them suitable for volume production. The x, y axis signal is based on natural thermal convection, and z-axis signal may be based on thermal convention or piezoresistive in nature. The bulk MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems) process is based on Deep Reactive Ion Etching (DRIE). After the front-end fabrication process, the accelerometers are packaged at wafer level by glass frit and/or anodic bonding, which lowers the device cost.

Abstract:

A single integrated sensing chip with multi-functions for tire pressure monitor system (TPMS) comprises: a pressure sensor, an accelerometer, a temperature sensor, and an ASIC (Applied Specific Integrated Circuit) that implements signal conditioning and digitalizes pressure output. The accelerometer incorporated for vehicle motion is used to determine centrifugal acceleration or three-axial acceleration of the rotating wheel, and used for the TPMS sensor wake-up from “power down” mode, or when the velocity of the vehicle is higher than certain speed threshold, which is more robust and lower in cost than the mechanical vibration switch and is naturally integrated with the electronic control unit. The accelerometer can be used for regular motion sensing to monitor the dynamic stability. The integrated sensor system can be packaged into one plastic package first, and then surface mounted to the printed circuit board, or the multi-function single chip can be wafer bonded on the wafer level first and diced into many individual chips, with each chip being directly attached on to the printed circuit board by wire bonding or flip-chip assembly.
