Abstract:

Helping users to track the contents (e.g., files) stored on various types of storage media without requiring the user to insert the storage media into a read device of a machine, such as a floppy drive of a personal computer, and/or helping users to locate desired content (e.g., a file) without having to insert numerous storage media into a read device of a machine. The contents of a given storage medium may be determined by associating a machine-readable label with each machine-readable medium, and the contents thereof. When a user wants to know the contents of the machine-readable medium, they merely need to have another device (e.g., a Palm Pilot provided with a bar code scanner) read the label. The device may include a database synchronized with a database managed by the machine which is used to write content to, and/or read content from, the machine-readable medium. A file may be found by (i) allowing a user to enter one or more search parameters into the device, such as a handheld, untethered device, (ii) generating a search query from the entered parameter(s), (iii) getting a search result(s) indicating the storage medium that includes the desired content, and (iv) helping the user to associate the indicated storage medium with the physical storage medium actually storing the desired content.

Embodiments of the disclosure include an orb or lamp communicating with a noninvasive monitor to provide a readily identifiable point indication of a wellness of a monitored patient. Abstract:

An apparatus for use in measuring fetal blood flow characteristics. The apparatus includes a non-invasive pulse oximetry probe that is inserted into the uterus between the fetus and the uterine wall. The probe is deformable and is positively attached to the fetal tissue surface using a vacuum pump which causes the probe to deform from a pre-set curvature to the curvature of the fetal tissue surface and to form a gasket-type seal with the fetal tissue surface. The probe is manually inserted into the uterus using a curved insertion tool, and is shaped to fit through a slightly dilated cervix. In a preferred embodiment, the probe includes fetal and maternal ECG sensors and additional sensing devices, and is provided with apparatus for improving the efficiency of the pulse oximetry optics.

Abstract:

A method and system for a health network comprising a facility, operated by a party other than the patient or health care provider, for collecting and routing information pertaining to the health care of a patient to the patient and the health care provider. The health network utilizes two-way communication between the patient and the facility, and the health care provider and the facility. In one embodiment, the facility receives treatment instructions from the health care provider that are specifically developed for each patient. Algorithms are developed based on such instructions. The algorithms are then programmed into an appropriately configured message device in the possession of the patient. The patient is prompted by the message device to measure and enter relevant physiological data, e. g. , peak flow, etc.

A method and apparatus for improving the calculation of oxygen saturation and other blood constituents by non-invasive pulse oximeters. The method and apparatus permit more accurate determination of blood flow by collecting time-measures of the absorption signal at two or more wavelengths and processing the collected time-measure to obtain composite pulsatile flow data from which artifacts have been filtered. The processing may occur in the time domain or in the frequency domain. In the preferred time domain embodiment, successive portions of periodic information are weighted and added together in synchrony to obtain the composite pulse information. In the preferred frequency domain embodiment, the time-measure is Fourier transformed into its spectral components to form the composite information. A new method and apparatus for correlating the heartbeat and optical pulse is provided whereby a product of the ECG R-wave and optical pulse signals corresponding to the same heartbeat is obtained, and one signal is time shifted relative to the other until a maximum waveform product corresponding to the heartbeat is determined.

Abstract:

A connector for an IC memory card having a printed circuit member mounted within the housing of the card which extends into a slot opening at the edge of the card. The connector contains two rows of contacts which are engageable with conductive traces on the opposite sides of the printed circuit member when the card is inserted into the connector. The contacts in the connector are reversely bent to form inner arms joined to outer arms by nose portions. The inner arms of the contacts in the two rows are normally spaced apart a distance greater than the thickness of the printed circuit member so that when the card is initially inserted into the connector, the noses of the contacts will pass freely over the border of the printed circuit member. Thereafter, the sidewalls of the housing of the card cam the outer arms of the contacts inwardly, forcing the inner arms into engagement with the traces on the printed circuit member in the card.

A connector assembly is described for fitting in a small space between a display panel device and a printed circuit board device, to electrically connect a multiplicity of closely-spaced conductors on the devices. The connector assembly includes a row of contact elements with opposite ends for contacting the conductors of the devices, and with curved middle portions that are nested in one another. The middle portions of the elements are sandwiched between the substantially flat faces of a housing, and the opposite ends of the elements project through openings in the housing.
