Abstract:

The present invention comprises a method, computer program product, and system for risk management. The present invention includes calculating a statistic of loss per unit time, the statistic being a product of a site loss parameter and a loss given a loss-basis event. The site loss parameter is a site casualty parameter and/or a site economic parameter, while the loss-basis event is a casualty-basis event and/or an economic-basis event, non-limiting examples of which include an earthquake, flooding, wind, and blast pressure.

Abstract:

This disclosure describes a method and apparatus for a visual display system in a vehicle simulator to compensate for distortion and to maximize illumination in a projected image substantially at the same time. Where a spherical mirror is interposed between a curved rear-projection screen and a viewing position, certain distortions are developed which detract from realism. Such distortions are compensated for by reflecting the image off a curve folding mirror positioned so that its major axis is substantially perpendicular to the major axis of the curved rear-projection screen. In accordance with the invention, when such compensation is achieved, the illumination of the projected image will be at substantially its brightest.

Abstract:

A substrate solution comprising (a) a substrate selected from a group consisting of salts of L-. gamma. -glutamyl-p-nitroanilide and L-. gamma. -glutamyl-3-carboxy-p-nitroanilide; and (b) a polyol selected from a group consisting of alkyl polyols containing 2 to 10 carbon atoms and 2 to 10 hydroxy groups and polyethylene glycol having an average molecular weight of from about 200 to about 600. Also, a kit for the determination of. gamma. -glutamyltransferase activity of the type comprising (a) a buffered medium comprising a buffer and a. gamma. -glutamyl residue acceptor; and (b) a substrate solution; the buffered medium and substrate solution being adapted such that preselected aliquots thereof can react in the presence of. gamma. -glutamyltransferase to produce an absorbing cleavage product. The kit is characterized in that the substrate solution is as described above.

Abstract:

A collapsible shipping container having a base structure provided with upstanding wall catches capable of being received in structurally interfitting relation within respective pockets defined within side walls thereof. A cover structure is provided with depending wall catches which are received within respective upwardly directed pockets of the side walls, thus securing the base structure to the side walls and the cover to the side walls. The cover structure is also provided with shipping catches which are received within shipping catch slots or openings defined within the base structure in the collapsed condition of the shipping container. In this condition the walls are stacked on the base structure and are restrained by the shipping catches and wall catches to secure the walls within the collapsed shipping container for shipping and handling in the collapsed condition thereof. The base structure is provided with spill guard strips which define space perimeters within which are received the lower ends of the wall structures to thus provide an appropriate seal to prevent entry of water and other liquid into the shipping container. The walls of the shipping container interfit at the corners thereof to define structurally interrelated corners that provide exceptional strength and which seal the corner sections against entry of water and other contaminants.

Abstract:

An apparatus for extracting the juice from whole fruit having a rind comprising axially aligned, spaced-apart piston and pressing head arranged to move reciprocally toward and away from each other, for loading a fruit therebetween, at least one perforated coring knife slidingly received in the pressing head for advancing into the fruit in preparation of collecting the extracted juice separate from the rind, and including an elastomeric head positioned over the front portion of the piston, defined by a circular concave portion centered over the piston and extending forward about its circumferencial edge an upstanding rim, and a skirt portion extending from the rim rearward along the outside of the piston to a terminal edge, wherein a ram, slidingly carried in the piston is hydraulically driven to advance beyond the piston to avert the center portion of the elastomeric head against the fruit during compression of the fruit between the ram and the pressing head, the improvement comprising at least one groove formed in the skirt portion of the elastomeric head beginning at the rim extending rearward along the outside of the skirt portion and terminating short of the terminal edge to provide an enclosed reservoir for receipt of peel oil expressed from the fruit during the squeezing operation for later disposal separate from the juice.

An implant system for securing a prosthesis to a selected bone of a subject including a stem and an abutment. The stem includes a porous region that promotes osseointegration of the selected bone following implantation of the stem. The abutment is secured to the stem and is configured for secure attachment to the prosthesis.
