Abstract:
A method for fabricating flexible optical fiber circuits, including routing optical fiber on a flexible substrate according to a predetermined pattern using an optical fiber routing head, wherein routing the optical fiber includes routing at least one non-disposable optical fiber portion and least one disposable test pattern. A cutting head is aligned to cut adjacent at least one segment of the non-disposable optical fiber portion based upon the accuracy with which the cutting head cuts adjacent to the test pattern. Using the test patterns avoids alignment errors that may otherwise occur during the cutting of the optical fiber circuit which can result in a total loss of the optical fiber substrate.

Abstract:
Fiber-optic connectors and methods for coupling optical fibers via the fiber-optic connectors are disclosed. Once such fiber-optic connector includes: 1) a socket having a tunnel extending through a portion of the socket, the tunnel having first opening through a first socket surface and a second opening through a second socket surface, the first surface being opposed to the second surface, 2) a first plug having a first prong that is configured to support a portion of a first optical fiber, and that is configured to be inserted with the portion of the first optical fiber into the first opening, and 3) a second plug having a second prong that is configured to support a portion of a second optical fiber, and that is configured to be inserted with the portion of the second optical fiber into the second opening.

Abstract:
A method and system for managing access and configuration of multiple independent communication related application services. The work associated with redundant configuration data or provisioning data necessary for managing the application services is minimized though a common directory server. The system utilizes a control module application having a common interface for modifying and entering duplicate data as well as data peculiar to each independent service.
Patency Check Compatible Check Valve And Fluid Delivery System Including The Patency Check Compatible Check Valve
The check valve includes a housing body and a valve member. An actuator is associated with the valve member or housing body. The housing body defines a flow passage and an inlet port and an outlet port each communicating with the flow passage. The housing body includes a seal seat in the flow passage between the inlet port and outlet port. The valve member is disposed in the flow passage and is adapted to engage the seal seat. The actuator may be operatively connected to the valve member to place the valve member in an override position permitting bi-directional fluid flow through the flow passage. The valve member may be a cantilever valve member responsive to fluid flow in the flow passage. The valve member may have multiple states or positions. The actuator may be a bypass actuator selectively placing the inlet port in fluid communication with the outlet port.

Abstract:
A ferrule used in an optical connector includes a cavity at one end that contains a malleable disk insert. A cylindrical bore extends through the insert and supports an optical fiber. The insert is deformed after the fiber is installed in the bore so that the insert firmly grips the fiber and the walls of the cavity without adhesives. As a result, relative movement between the fiber and the ferrule is prevented despite the expansion and contraction that occur due to temperature variations.

Abstract:
An optical fiber connector for use with plastic optical fibers includes a housing having a longitudinal bore forming a flat end wall adjacent the fiber entrance end. A graduated coil spring member is seated against the wall and retained within the bore. The spring has a first, compression generating section, a second section of lesser diameter for grasping and holding the jacket of a jacketed plastic optic fiber, and a third section that locates and guides the bare fiber to the interface end of the coupler.

Abstract:
An optical fiber connector is disclosed for terminating an optical cable which has a plastic core and a surrounding jacket. The connector includes a body member which has a central bore extending therethrough within which is a longitudinally extending internally threaded portion dimensioned to grip the plastic jacket when the cable is screwed into the body member. The bore has a tapered section extending from the threaded portion to a cable entrant end of the body to facilitate insertion of an optical cable into the body.

Abstract:
An optical fiber connector includes a wedge for gripping one or more buffered optical fibers. The wedge comprises a body portion having an opening that extends through it from one end to the other through a longitudinal axis of the wedge for receiving the pair of optical fibers contained within a cable. The wedge further includes a pair of flexible cantilevers that extend from one end of the body portion along a direction that is parallel to the longitudinal axis. Each cantilever includes an inner surface that faces the inner surface of the other cantilever, and each inner surface includes an like number of grooves that are parallel to each other and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the wedge. The grooves grip the pair of buffered optical fibers when compressed by crimping a surrounding bushing, and thereby restrain the optical fibers from being pulled back into the cable during handling. The cantilevers are symmetrically positioned on opposite sides of a plane which contains the longitudinal axis of the wedge.
