Abstract:

Interbay housing assemblies for use with fiber optic management system racks, include a first enclosure having sidewalls, a rear opening and a plurality of front openings. Mounting brackets are attached to the sidewalls for attachment to adjacent equipment racks. Additional enclosures are positioned adjacent to the front openings. Each of the additional enclosures defines a slot for receiving cables. Each of the additional enclosures can include built-in radius control guides adjacent to the slot for receiving cables. A fiber optic cable management system including an interbay housing assembly positioned between two equipment racks is also disclosed.

Abstract:

Provided is a spliced-on connector system which includes a connector body, an incoming fiber which is spliced to the connector body, a splice sleeve which covers a splice point at which the incoming fiber is spliced to the connector body, and an extender tube which covers the splice sleeve. Also provided is a method of producing the spliced-on connector system; a holder including a depression which holds a connector body in a position in which the connector body is spliced to an incoming fiber, the holder being disposed inside a splicer which splices the connector body to the incoming fiber; and a splicer including a tube heater which heat-shrinks a splice sleeve over a splice point at which a connector body is spliced to an incoming fiber, the tube heater accommodating the connector holder which holds the connector body.

A strain relief (9) for right angle coupling of a fiber optic cable (2) with a connector (1) comprises, a generally tubular length of flexible material provided with a cylindrical axial bore (18) sized for receiving the fiber optic cable (2), and formed with narrow openings (24), an imposing tongue (27) in each of the openings (24) and a complementary groove (29) across the opening (26), whereby upon bending of the tubular length, tongues (27) lodge in the grooves (29).

Abstract:

A fiber optic termination for incorporating within a fiber optic connector is capable of mechanical assembly which can preclude the use of adhesives for termination assembly. A metal plunger compresses a bullet having an aperture therethrough into a constriction causing the bullet to grip a fiber. A metal insert lines the interior of an alignment ferrule and engages the actuating plunger with an interference fit. The interference fit retains the plunger over time and over a broad operating temperature range. Dimples on the outer surface of the metal insert create pockets of engagement between the insert and the alignment ferrule that resist axial displacement of the insert relative to the alignment ferrule.

A fiber optic connector plug body (1) receives a ferrule (2) therewithin. The plug body (1) receives an internal body (5) in a snap fit to retain the ferrule (2) within the plug body (1). Two inwardly biased latch members (14) on the plug body (1) are received within a circumferential groove on the internal body. The resulting assembly is resistant to disassembly upon application of tensile and lateral forces to the internal body.
