Abstract:

The invention described herein encompasses a methods and compositions of treating cancer or solid tumors comprising the administration of a therapeutically effective amount of catechins, a group of polyphenols found in green tea, to a mammal in need of such therapy. Compositions of catechins include but not limited to, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg), epicatechin (EC), epicatechin gallate (ECG), epigallocatechin (EGC). The unique compositions of the invention contain various combinations of the catechins, alone or in combination with each other or other therapeutic agents and are used to treat primary and metastatic cancers in humans. The invention also encompasses the varying modes of administration of the therapeutic compounds, including a sustained release formulation which may be used as a therapeutic compound for the treatment of cancer or as a dietary supplement for the prevention of cancer.

Abstract:

A measurement system is provided for measuring distances in the anterior chamber of an eye in conjunction with a slit lamp ophthalmologic microscope table. The measurement system includes a linearly movable interface assembly operative to pick up motions of the microscope assembly in a direction along an optical axis of the eye. A linear measurement assembly is coupled to the interface assembly and operative to determine a distance traveled by the interface. The measurement system may further be provided with a three-axis motion assembly and an optical microscope assembly mounted on the motion assembly. An image recording device is optically aligned with the optical microscope assembly to record images from the optical microscope assembly. A controller assembly is operative to control motion of the three-axis motion assembly in a first horizontal direction parallel to an optical axis of an eye of a patient, in a second horizontal direction orthogonal to the first horizontal direction to align the microscope assembly with both eyes, and in a vertical direction. The measurement system with image recording capability may be a stand-along system or incorporated for engagement and disengagement with an existing slit lamp table.

Abstract:

Methods, computers, and computer readable media are disclosed for recording user-driven events within an application running on a computer that utilizes a graphical user interface. Changes of focus of the application are detected and entries for the resulting focus are logged. While the changes of focus are being detected, the application is monitored for a window message that signifies user activity. When a window message occurs, the activity of the window message is used to specify the user-driven event. A focus of an entry previously logged may also be obtained and used to specify the user-driven event, such as a mouse click on a specific tool bar button of the graphical user interface. A series of user-driven events can be recorded up to the occurrence of an application malfunction, and then the recorded events can be followed by a user to reproduce the malfunction and begin debugging the application.

Abstract:

An image processing method and apparatus is described for processing a signal from a monochrome or color sensor that may be subject to pixel defects or blemishes. Without prior knowledge of any pixel defects, the processing method examines each pixel value and its neighboring pixel values. A number of tests are applied to the set of pixel values to determine whether the underlying pixel is defective. If the underlying pixel is determined to be defective, the pixel value is replaced by an estimate value derived from the values of its neighboring pixels. Otherwise, the pixel value remains intact.

Abstract:

A method for determining quantization numbers for each macro block in one video segment having a prescribed capacity is disclosed. The quantization numbers determine how much data will be preserved for that macro block. The method begins by determining a level of complexity for each macro block. Next, initial quantization numbers are chosen for the macro blocks by choosing the largest values possible without exceeding the prescribed capacity of the video segment. Final quantization numbers are selected based on respective ones of the initial quantization numbers proportioned according to the level of complexity for that macro block. The final quantization numbers may be increased or decreased so that the capacity of the video segment is maximized but not exceeded.
