Abstract:

A system for automatically planning firmware card ports on multiplexors in a DSL network is disclosed. The system is operable to query element management systems (EMS's) in a DSL network to identify the multiplexor devices that each of the EMS's is dedicated to managing. Thereafter, the system queries the multiplexor devices identified as being managed by a particular EMS for the planning status of the multiplexor's ports. Upon identifying unplanned ports, and those that are inconsistent with the prescribed plan, the system plans the ports consistent with a prescribed planning arrangement.

Abstract:

Systems and methods for inventorying a broadband access network multiplexing element switch fabric are disclosed. The methods include establishing communication with an element manager from a remote location, gathering status information for the multiplexing element by issuing a first interface retrieve command to the element manager from the remote location, and gathering status information for the switch fabric by issuing a second interface retrieve command to the multiplexing element from the remote location. The systems include an element manager, a first communications path between the element manager and a multiplexing element, the first communications path carrying information and control commands between the element manager and the multiplexing element, an inventory tool at a location remote from the element manager, the inventory tool generating inventory commands and compiling status information received in response to the inventory commands, and a second communications path between the inventory tool and the element manager, the second communications path carrying the inventory commands and status information between the inventory tool and the element manager.

Abstract:

Improvements to existing statistical record memory purge procedures and processes are shown and described. Certain procedures ensure that there is adequate temporary memory for storing new statistical records before purging older statistical records from permanent memory. Certain of the procedures wait a predetermined amount of time before reevaluating whether there is adequate temporary memory for storing new statistical records. After older statistical records have been purged, certain of the procedures update any indices or pointers utilized by permanent memory. The improvements may be implemented in a telecommunications system having a plurality of managed elements, each of the managed elements potentially generating statistical data that is communicated to one or more statistics servers.

Abstract:

A system for automated software distribution to network elements in a fiber-optic network is disclosed. The system contacts multiplexors, which communicate with a central office, and checks the status of software stored on a plurality of firmware cards located in the multiplexor. If the software on the plurality of the firmware cards is not the same across all cards, or is not the desired version, the system automatically downloads the desired software version to the appropriate cards. The system thereafter contacts network units connected to the multiplexor and checks the status of software stored on firmware cards located in the network units. If the software on the firmware cards is not the same across all cards, or is not the desired version, the system automatically downloads the desired software version to the appropriate cards.

Abstract:

Example systems and methods for managing resources in broadband networks are disclosed. An example method for configuring a port of a digital subscriber line access multiplexor (DSLAM), the method including obtaining from a pre-defined configuration for the port a parameter indicating that a customer line termination port card is to be installed in the port, querying the DSLAM to determine a configuration state of the port, configuring the DSLAM with the parameter for the port when the port has not been configured, and reconfiguring the DSLAM with the parameter for the port when the port is incorrectly configured for a network line termination port card.
