Abstract:

A liner hanger setting arrangement includes setting tool (T) which supports a piston (P) for engagement with a tubular member (M) moveably supported on the liner (L). At least one cone surface (27) is provided on the member (M). The tubular member (M) is movable by the piston (P) to engage slip segments (26) mounted on the liner (L) to urge the Iv slip segments into securing position with a well bore casing (C). A lock (LM) maintains the cone surface (27) and the slip segments in engaged relation.

Abstract:

Relatively rotatable inner and outer tubular bodies include ports for communicating a well string in which the bodies are connected with the well bore. A seal between the bodies surrounds the port in one of the bodies to control communication between the bodies and well bore when the bodies are rotated to align and misalign the ports. A restrainer engages the well bore to restrain one of the bodies while the other is rotated by the well string and a receptacle with a port between seals that engage the well bore is provided so that a treating fluid placed in the well string may be pumped down while the body ports are open to discharge well string fluid to the well bore and when the treating fluid reaches the bodies, the ports are closed so the treating fluid may be discharged through the receptacle ports into the well bore zone isolated between the seals on the receptacle.

Abstract:

A liner and a hydraulic liner hanger setting arrangement for setting the liner in a well bore casing includes a setting tool having a tubular mandrel connected in a pipe string to extend through the hydraulic setting arrangement with the liner forming an outer housing surrounding the liner and to form a longitudinally extending annular recess therebetween with one end of the recess exposed to the well bore. Longitudinally extending piston means are sealably engaged in the recess with the piston means having a cone shaped end. Slips are releasably secured to the liner and means are provided to retain and to lock the piston means against premature retraction into the recess. A port in the housing communicates fluid pressure from the mandrel to the housing recess to move said piston means in the recess and engage the cone shaped end thereof with said slips to urge them into engagement with the well bore casing and thus secure the liner in position. Upon lowering the setting tool after the slips engage the casing, seal means on the piston means span the housing port and prevent communication to the recess from the port means when the piston is retracted back into the recess.

Abstract:

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for cementing a liner in a well bore having a casing wherein the liner is connected to a running tool and includes hanger means for securing the liner to the casing in the well bore. The liner includes an upper and lower liner portion each having port means therein and means to lock the telescoping liner portions against relative longitudinal movement to prevent premature actuation or operation of the port means. The liner portions provide a mechanically actuated port arrangement to be employed with first and second liner wiper means and first and second pump down plug means for cementing above a packer on the lower liner portion, or for providing dual stage cementing.

Abstract:

Apparatus and method of positioning and seating a retrievable insert landing assembly in a well bore tubular member with a left-hand threaded portion and having a sealing bore above or below the threaded portion. A releasable connecting arrangement secures the landing assembly in a well bore tubular member by engaging with the left-hand threaded portion in the tubular member. The landing assembly has an internal polished bore above the connecting arrangement which slidably and sealingly receives a tubular extension attached to a well string. The connecting arrangement is actuated by lowering the retrievable landing assembly within the tubular member to position the connecting arrangement adjacent the left-hand threaded portion and then lifting up on the landing assembly to lock it with the left-hand threaded portion. The well string is manipulated to actuate the releaseable coupling and disconnect the well string from the landing assembly after it is connected with the tubular member. To retrieve the landing assembly, the well string is manipulated to reconnect it with the retrievable landing assembly.

Abstract:

A running string is releasably connected to a liner an liner hanger setting arrangement for lowering into a well bore casing and securing the liner to a casing. The liner hanger setting arrangement includes a first sleeve with upper and lower annular rows of conically shaped segments circumferentially spaced thereon. Upper and lower spaced rows of hanger slips are connected to a second sleeve by elongated strips and the second sleeve is releasably secured to the first sleeve whereby the second sleeve may be released from the sleeve for relative longitudinal movement therebetween to move the hanger slips onto the segments and secure the liner to the casing. The space between the segments in each row is substantial to accommodate relatively unrestricted fluid flow thereabout as the apparatus is manipulated and operations conducted in the well bore. After the running string is disconnected from the liner and liner hanger, it is lowered to releasably connect splines on the running string and upper end of the liner. The liner has a rotatable bearing above said sleeves and liner hanger and rotation of the running string is thus transmitted to the liner as it is cemented in the well bore.

Abstract:

A hydraulic running and release tool includes a mandrel, outer sleeve, latch nut and piston which may be hydraulically or mechanically actuated to release the tool from a tubular member after it has been positined in a well bore. The latch nut and piston are releasably connected together by a shear member between the outer sleeve and the mandrel and the latch nut is releasably connected to a tubular member, with the piston positioned adjacent the releasable connection between the latch nut and tubular member to prevent premature disconnection of the latch nut from the tubular member. To release the hydraulic tool, fluid pressure through a port in the mandrel from the well string acts on the piston to shear the member that connects the piston to the latch nut so that the piston shifts away from the releasable connection. After the piston is shifted hydraulically, it reconnects to the latch nut whereupon the piston and latch nut may hydraulically thereafter by shifted longitudinally together to disconnect the latch nut from the tubular member for retrieval of the tool including the mandrel, outer sleeve, latch nut and piston from the well bore. If a malfunction occurs with the hydraulic release, rotation may be imparted to the mandrel which is in turn imparted to the latch nut by engaged splines on the mandrel and latch nut for rotating the latch nut to disconnect it from the tubular member for retrieval of the tool including the outer sleeve, mandrel, latch nut and piston from the well bore.
