  • Abstract:
    A system and process for producing xylene and other alkylated aromatics includes one or more fluidized bed reaction zones that provide contact between the reactants (i. e. , an aromatic reactant and an alkylating reagent). Improved conversion and selectivity is realized when the alkylating reagent is stagewise injected into the fluidized bed at one or more locations downstream from the location of aromatic reactant introduction into the fluidized bed. Preferably, the alkylating reagent is introduced at a plurality of locations along the axial direction of the fluidized bed reaction zone, or at plural locations between a plurality of different fluidized bed reaction zones.

    Process and apparatus for upgrading light olefinic crackate gas from a fluidized catalytic cracking unit having a riser reactor for contacting hot solid cracking catalyst with a heavy hydrocarbon feedstock, said light crackate gas containing ethene, propene and other C. sub. 1 -C. sub. 4 lower aliphatics, comprising the steps of: reacting the light olefinic gas in contact with a fluidized bed of acid medium pore zeolite catalyst particles under oligomerization and/or aromatization conditions to produce a hydrocarbon effluent stream rich in C. sub. 5. sup. + hydrocarbons and a byproduct light gas rich in C. sub. 1 -C. sub. 4 saturated hydrocarbons; separating the oligomerization reaction effluent stream to provide a second light gas stream and a condensed liquid hydrocarbon product stream; and recycling at least a portion of the second gas stream to the fluidized catalytic cracking unit as a lift gas for fluidizing solid cracking catalyst particles in a lower riser portion of said cracking unit.

    The present invention provides a method for separating conjunct polymers and sulfolane from a mixture containing conjunct polymers, sulfolane, and hydrofluoric acid comprising the sequential steps of: (a) separating hydrofluoric acid from said mixture to provide an intermediate stream containing less than about 30 percent hydrofluoric acid by weight; (b) gravitationally separating said intermediate stream into a sulfolane-enriched stream and a conjunct polymer-enriched stream; (c) contacting said sulfolane-enriched stream with a polar extraction solvent to provide an extract stream enriched in sulfolane and a raffinate stream enriched in conjunct polymers; (d) stripping the polar extraction solvent from said sulfolane-enriched extract stream; and (e) recovering sulfolane from said enriched stream of step (d).

    A process has been discovered for the conversion of C. sub. 5 -C. sub. 7 olefinic hydrocarbons, such as those contained in FCC light naphtha, to iso-butene-rich and isoamylene-rich streams in an integrated process for the production of MTBE and TAME. The process involves the initial separation of the isoamylene-rich C. sub. 5 -fraction of the feedstream which is converted to TAME. The C. sub. 6 -C. sub. 7 fraction plus unreacted C. sub. 5 's are converted by olefin interconversion with medium pore zeolite catalyst into an isobutylene and isoamylene-rich stream which is then used as feedstream for etherification to MTBE and TAME.

    A single path process for alkylating a hydrocarbon feedstock containing an olefin and an isoparaffin is disclosed. The process includes dispersing an acid-based liquid alkylation catalyst into a reaction zone for contact with a continuous hydrocarbon phase. The process further includes separating the hydrocarbon phase from the acid catalyst upon completion of the alkylation reaction and providing a continuous on-line regeneration of the entire volume of catalyst once it has been separated from the hydrocarbon phase.
