Abstract:

A private communication network through which a plurality of member users communicate using the public switched telephone network (PSTN) is disclosed herein. Each member user utilizes either a modified land line telephone directly connected to PSTN, or uses a modified mobile telephone operatively coupled to the PSTN through a wireless communication system. The private communication network includes network call manager having a telephone network interface for establishing a telephone connection with each of a plurality of telephone lines of the PSTN. Each of the plurality of telephone lines is associated with one of the plurality of member users. The network call manager further includes a switch matrix, coupled to the telephone network interface, for providing an information signal received from an active member user over a selected telephone line to the remaining non-active member users. A network call manager controller identifies the active member user the basis of push-to-talk (PTT) request signals received from the member users'telephones over the plurality of telephone lines. The telephone set of each member user will typically be capable of both standard telephone operation as well as of PTT operation over the private communication network.

Abstract:

An improved shielding assembly for a circuit board. This assembly is formed by providing a substantially flat piece of metal that will be used to form a shield assembly. A template is obtained indicating locations of folds and tabs. The folds are at locations that will enable the tabs to be located in the holes on the circuit board. The template is used to etch grooves and to etch tabs. This can be used to form a shielding assembly.

Abstract:

A decoding system capable of outputting Viterbi-decoding-algorithm-decoded data at a predetermined rate that is greater than a given rate at which coded data is processed in accordance with said algorithm to produce the decoded data. The system includes a data input bus; a data output bus; a ring of decoders, with each decoder being coupled to the input bus for receiving coded data from the input bus and coupled to the output bus for providing decoded data onto the output bus. Each of the decoders in the ring includes an input buffer, timing controller, decoding processor and output buffer. The input buffer responds to a start-input signal from a preceding decoder in the ring by buffering a block of the received coded data. The timing contoller provides a start-input signal to a succeeding decoder in the ring at such time as to cause the succeeding decoder to receive a block of coded data from the input bus that overlaps the block of coded data received from the input bus by the instant said decoder. The decoding processor processes the buffered block of coded data at a given rate to produce decoded data.

Abstract:

An apparatus and method is provided for modulating and transmitting full-motion, television-quality color video signals along with digital data signals over a pair of ordinary unshielded twisted pair telephone wires without interfering with normal telephone data on the wires. A transmission method is disclosed involving frequency modulation of a baseband video signal and subsequent filtering to suppress an upper sideband corresponding to a color component of the original video signal. The filtered signal is received from the telephone wires at a difference location, filtered, demodulated and provided to a display device. Full-duplex operation over the same pair of wires is possible, such that two video signals may be simultaneously transmitted, each signal having an approximate bandwidth of 6 MHZ and shifted to a desirable noninterfering frequency location within the approximately 20 MHZ of usable bandwidth on the telephone wires. No pre-emphasis or de-emphasis is required to achieve good quality video transmission. The system has many applications including video distribution, conferencing, and communications.

Abstract:

Abstract:

An improved shielding assembly for a circuit board. The assembly includes a multi-layer circuit board, each layer of which has ground planes around the perimeter thereof. An edge plating on the circuit board connects the ground planes to one another. A number of tab holes are also in the board, and the shielding assembly is formed as a conductive box which is connected to the tab holes. A shielded area is formed within the shielding assembly. The shielding assembly is preferably formed by etching fold locations and folding, and by etching tabs to be formed.
