Abstract:

A method and system for whitening teeth using at least a whitening gel, a whitening toothpaste, and a whitening rinse. Preferably the system employs a predetermined weight percentage of a peroxide based bleaching agent to effect tooth whitening. In certain formulations the components may use carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide as a bleaching agent. The system may be used at home and preferably does not require clinical visits. The method includes the steps of brushing the teeth daily and before each bleaching with a whitening toothpaste, bleaching the teeth with a whitening gel twice daily, and rinsing with a whitening rinse. Daily brushing with a whitening toothpaste and preferably rinsing with a whitening rinse follow these whitening treatments. A system or kit for whitening teeth includes all of the components necessary to follow the aforementioned method, including a whitening gel, whitening toothpaste, a whitening rinse, and one or more mouth guard trays.

Abstract:

A provisional crown-and-bridge resin comprising a liquid resin component and a powder component. The liquid resin component contains tetrahydrofurfuryl methacrylate as a major ingredient and is free from methyl methacrylate. It also contains an anti-oxidant and an accelerator. The powder component contains poly (ethyl methacrylate) as a major ingredient and a curing agent for the resin component. The powder is mixed with the resin shortly before application at a ratio of about two to about five parts of powder to one part of liquid resin by weight, to give a suitably flowing mixture. The resin component may also contain ethyl methacrylate as a major ingredient and may contain ethoxylated bisphenol A dimethacrylate as a major ingredient. The powder may include a substantial proportion of amorphous silica and preferably incorporates a substantial amount of X-ray opaque barium glass.

Abstract:

A single package adhesive for tooth bonding applications which comprises a bulk-water-free solvent-based homogeneous liquid containing: 1) An ethylenically unsaturated monomer that possesses a hygroscopic functional group that (a) is capable of chemically reacting with and through the ethylenic bond of the ethylenically unsaturated-functional monomer of 2) below, and (b) provides the capacity for chemical bonding to the surface to which the adhesive is applied. 2) A mixture of soft, medium and hard crosslinkers (cross linking agents) that are polyfunctional molecules where the functionality is complementary to the ethylenic unsaturation of the ethylenically-unsaturated-functional monomer of 1) above; 3) A measurable amount of a water/fluid leachable fluoride capable of being leached from the liquid in a metered amount, obtained from a fluoride source, such as a particulate siliceous fluoride containing filler suspended in the liquid, in which the fluoride therein is water leachable; and 4) a photoinitiator system, i. e. , comprises a free radical photoinitiator that induces addition polymerization of an ethylenically unsaturated compound. A method is described for using the adhesive in tooth bonding applications.
