Abstract:

A miniature heat source capable of being used in a hand-held device for delivering a metered pulse of fuel to a combustion chamber where it is converted into a pulsed amount of heat. For example, the heat source apparatus can be used in a hand-held cigarette smoking system or within a portable device wherein a microturbine generates electricity, as well as any type of environment where a high energy pulse of heat is desired. The heat source includes a valve such as a sliding, rotatable or timed valve which delivers a metered volume of fuel to the combustion chamber. The valve can deliver the fuel, in an expanded gaseous form, to a venturi conduit which increases the velocity of the gas flow, and delivers the fuel to a combustion chamber where the gas is mixed with air. The combustible mixture is then combusted within the combustion chamber by ignition and/or by catalyzed oxidation. The heat source provides a consistent, controlled and pulsed amount of heat with a higher energy capacity as compared to battery powered heat sources.

Abstract:

A temperature and flow rate controlled capillary aerosol generator includes two heating zones optionally separated by a region in which a pressure drop is induced. Power is metered or applied to the downstream, second zone to achieve a target resistance, and therefore a target temperature, while power is metered or applied to the upstream, first zone to achieve a target mass flow rate exiting the second zone. A target temperature is achieved in the second zone to generate an aerosol from the liquid flowing through the generator at the desired mass flow rate.

Abstract:

A point-of-sale dispensing rack for retail consumer goods includes a high definition liquid crystal display header system for showing a variety of preprogramable picture and/or written messages over an extended period of time. The system includes a high definition liquid crystal display header and a portable memory storage device housing for receiving a portable memory storage device with preprogramable messages thereon. A computer connected between the portable memory storage device housing and the header sends the messages to the header for display. The system allows for periodic automatic rotation of several messages e. g. throughout the day and month versus paper graphics that must be changed by hand. The system also enables programming of messages at different times or dates which enhances the ability of a brand of a particular consumer product to reach its unique audience. The system is also capable of being networked to provide coordination of displays and the updating of messages and images stored in the memory.
