A turbine cooling component comprising a circumferential leading edge, a circumferential trailing edge, a pair of spaced and opposed side panels connected to the leading and trailing edges, an arcuate base connected to the trailing and leading edges having a fore portion, a midsection portion, an aft portion, opposed side portions, an outer surface partially defining a cavity operative to receive pressurized air, and an arcuate inner surface in contact with a gas flow path of a turbine engine, a first side cooling air passage in the base extending along the first side portion from the fore portion to the aft portion, and a fore cooling air passage in the fore portion of the base communicative with the side cooling air passage and the cavity, operative to receive the pressurized air from the cavity.

Abstract:

A corneal hydration sensing system includes an illumination system configured to provide an illumination beam of terahertz radiation, an optical system arranged in an optical path of the illumination system to relay and direct at least a portion of the illumination beam of terahertz radiation onto a cornea of a subject and to receive at least a portion of terahertz radiation reflected from the cornea to provide a return beam of terahertz radiation, and a detection system arranged in an optical path of the return beam of terahertz radiation. The detection system is configured to provide a detection signal from detecting at least a portion of the return beam of terahertz radiation. The corneal hydration sensing system also includes a signal processing system configured to communicate with the detection system to receive the detection signal. The signal processing system processes the detection signal to provide a measure of an amount of hydration sensed in the cornea of the subject.

Abstract:

A retention device for maintaining a first rotary machine component axially loaded onto a second rotary machine component in a fixed axial position includes a lock block sized and configured to move between first and second aligned recesses in the first and second rotary machine components. The aligned recesses are shaped to prevent rotation of the lock block, and the lock block has a threaded bore extending therethrough. An actuator is threadably mounted in the bore, such that rotation of the actuator will, in use, move the lock block from the first aligned recess at least partially into the second aligned recess.

A turbomachine system includes a turbomachine that includes a rotor that includes a rotational axis, a first rotating segment having a first mating axial mount coupled to a first axial mount of the rotor in a first installed position and a first pin configured to insert into a first inserted position in both a first slot in the rotor and a first mating slot in the first rotating segment. Abstract:

Systems and methods for performing multi-frequency harmonic acoustography for target identification and border detection are described, where a focused confocal transducer having a piezoelectric element and a hydrophone positioned centrally in the piezoelectric element is used. The transducer emits ultrasonic waves toward a target of interest at first and second frequencies. The two waves interfere at a focal plane within the target to generate a third acoustic wave. The target absorbs energy and emits its own unique vibration at the difference frequency (Δf) of the two waves as well as its harmonics. The unique vibration is recorded with a hydrophone, and mechanical properties of the target are ascertained through detection and analysis of the third acoustic wave using a mathematical model implemented by a signal processing circuit.
