A method receives incoming messages from data feed lines. The incoming messages have data on associated market events. The method includes receiving incoming messages from a feed line, translating the received incoming messages into market event messages having a common format, and publishing a portion of the translated messages on a network. Each market event message includes data on a market event and time data. The network has multiple devices capable of receiving the translated messages.

A method of detecting alert conditions includes receiving an electronic market event message for a new quote from a market participant, requesting a previous quote for the items, and determining whether the new quote is higher or lower than the previous quote. A system for monitoring market activity includes a primary system and a backup system. The primary system is capable of generating alerts in response to detecting alert conditions from received incoming messages for market events. The backup system is capable of generating alerts in response to detecting alert conditions from receiving incoming messages for market events. The primary system is configured to resynchronize the state of the backup system to the state of the primary system while the primary system performs full market monitoring operations.

Abstract:

An alert dispatcher for a market monitoring system includes a computer having a processor and a memory device. The memory device encodes an executable program of instructions for dispatching alerts. The instructions receive alerts from a plurality of alert engines, store a portion of the received messages in a queue, and publish the stored messages for analyst computers. A system for monitoring a trading market includes a local area network, an alert engine coupled to the network, and an alert dispatcher. The alert engine produces an alert on the network in response to receiving a market event message corresponding an alert condition. The alert dispatcher is connected to receive alerts from the network and to publish a portion of the alerts for analysts, and to generate data on alert delivery times.
