Abstract:

A rotor adapted for use in a hydrodynamic device comprising a cylindrical screen having a circumferentially continuous apertured zone. The rotor has an axis of rotation and includes a substantially cylindrical outer surface adjacent the cylindrical screen surface. The rotor further includes a plurality of sets of a plurality of adjacent vane members supported above a substantially cylindrical outer surface of a rotor by a plurality of brackets. The rotor has an axis of rotation and is mounted within and co-axial with the cylindrical screen to define an annular screening chamber between the rotor and the screen. The sets are equally spaced apart in a direction circumferential to the rotor axis, and the vane members extend the length of the screening chamber parallel to the rotor axis.

Abstract:

A device including a hollow cylindrical body, first and second stationary coaxial annular screening screens disposed within the body, and a rotor within the body and positioned between the screens to conduct the slurry through the first screen and then through the second screen, the rotor being driven in rotation. The pulp slurry passes through a central entry pipe, radially outward and then upward along the inside of the rotor, further inward through a coarse screen cylinder, and then around the end of the rotor to pass between the outer surface of the rotor and the inner surface of a fine screen cylinder. The pulp slurry then finally passes outward through the fine screen cylinder. Coarse rejects, such as knots or other coarse material, are collected at the end of the coarse screening chamber and led away for further processing. Fine rejects are similarly collected at the end of the fine screening chamber, also to be led away separately for further processing.

Abstract:

A rotor having a longitudinal axis of rotation and including an outer surface adjacent a screen surface. The rotor also includes a plurality of sets of radially extending, relative to the rotor axis, adjacent vane members attached to the rotor surface, each set including at least four adjacent vane members with equally spaced apart and parallel trailing edges ending in a common plane. The two outermost vane members have leading edges forward of the two most inside vane members, with the leading edges forward of the two most inside vane members being angled toward its next adjacent vane. The height of the two innermost vane members is about half of the height of the two outermost vane members. Each of the outermost vane members is angled relative to the circumferential direction of travel of the rotor by each of the outermost having vane members with a leading edge that is angled relative to its trailing edge. Each of the vane members has a leading edge forming an acute angle relative to the surface of the rotor and has a top edge with the same radius of curvature as the screen. The plurality of sets of vane members are spaced out throughout a screening chamber defined between the rotor surface and the screen in the direction of the rotor axis. The rotor outer surface does not have any longitudinally extending lifting bodies that produce pressure pulses throughout the screening chamber.

Abstract:

A rotor shaft extends axially through an interior cylinder defined by a housing. The shaft is mounted for rotation at one end. A flow of medium consistency stock is introduced axially to the cylinder, while a chemical inlet supplies bleaching chemicals axially to a rotor mounted on the shaft. The head of the rotor has turbine passages which accelerate the impinging bleaching chemicals along radial lines to be thus distributed across the whole aperture of the cylinder. Tapered vanes extend from the rotor adjacent to the rotor head and create circulating vortices which mix the bleach chemicals with the pulp. As the tapered vanes extend radially toward the cylindrical walls of the cylindrical housing, the vortices extend to the housing walls. The finely mixed bleaching chemicals and pulp are then forced through a foraminous cylinder which separates the interior of the cylindrical housing from an outlet volute by vanes which extend to near engagement with the foraminous cylinder. The foraminous cylinder has a porosity of about ten percent, the holes formed in the foraminous being on the order of one inch in diameter.

Abstract:

Paper fiber suspended in black liquor is washed in a rotating drum divided into a plurality of adjacent sectors. The fiber is formed into a mat on the drum, and the drum is rotated so the sectors progress through a first wash and a second wash of progressively cleaner wash fluid. Each sector has two distinct drainage systems. One drainage system drains the first wash water after it has passed through the mat, and is then blocked while that sector passes through the second wash. The cleaner second wash fluid is thus kept separate from the more contaminated first wash fluid, and is recirculated to be used in subsequent cycles as first wash fluid.

Abstract:

A rotor adapted for mounting for rotation within a screen of a pulp screening apparatus, and for defining a screening space between the rotor and the screen so that pulp suspension flows into the screening space, with accepted pulp passing through the screen to a stock outlet and rejected pulp passing along a screen inlet surface in a screening flow direction to a rejects outlet. The rotor has an interior, and an exterior with pressure impulse protuberances thereon for rotation with the rotor in close proximity to the inlet surface. A stock inlet communicates with the screening space and the rotor interior. And the rotor has at least one opening extending in the screening flow direction from its interior to its exterior for over at least a fourth of screening flow length of the rotor for admitting a substantial portion of pulp suspension from the stock inlet and the rotor interior into the screening space.
