Abstract:

A side airbag module assembly for a vehicle seat back rest features a molded plastic cover () with a Class A surface constituting the outside of the cover visible after installation in the backrest (). A base plate () of an airbag holder () made of metal or plastic is rigidly connected to the cover () by insert-molding or a different method of attachment. A fastening bracket () is integrally formed onto the base plate (). An airbag () including a gas generator () is prepackaged in a soft pack () with fasteners () protruding from the soft pack (). The fasteners () and the fastening bracket () are configured to attach the soft pack () to the airbag holder (). Upon deployment of the airbag, the fastening bracket () will bend and thereby open the cover (), which allows the airbag () to inflate in a forward direction.

Abstract:

An inflatable curtain airbag includes a luminescent visual marking indicating a proper installation of a compacted airbag bundle. Luminescent materials, when exposed to electromagnetic radiation of one frequency range, emit electromagnetic radiation in a different frequency range. This emitted radiation can be automatically detected by an optical detection device. The simplest marking consists of a line extending along the length of the airbag bundle. To facilitate recognition of the marking in an automated quality control, the marking may consist of a number of parallel lines, a portion of which may be broken lines, or a row of dots lined up along the length of the bundle. When the curtain airbag is compacted to a bundle, the marking may be located anywhere on the surface of the bundle in an area facing the interior of the vehicle.

Abstract:

Fabrics for inflatable airbags including one or more aperture sections are disclosed. The aperture sections can be formed in woven fabric panels of the inflatable airbags. Methods of weaving fabric panels including aperture sections for inflatable airbags are also disclosed. The aperture sections may define vents, or the aperture sections may receive a portion of an inflator, a lead wire, and/or a mounting hardware component.
