Abstract:
A method for designing an avalanche photodiode for high bit rate or high speed applications is disclosed. The photodiode is made up of a multiplication layer of a first semiconductor material, an absorption layer of a second semiconductor material and a field control layer of a third semiconductor material having. The field control layer has a moderate doping of a first type dopant and is intermediate between the multiplication and absorption layers. A central region of the multiplication layer is diffused with a second type dopant which results in a diffused region having a greater thickness in the center than in the periphery of the diffused region.

Abstract:
Roasted infused seeds and a process for preparing roasted infused seeds are described. In one aspect, the roasted infused seeds may have salt, flavors, nutrients, colors, and/or functional ingredients as well as mixtures of these components infused internally into the seed. By infusing such components into the seeds, the methods described herein provide roasted seeds with unique flavors, nutrients, colors, textures, densities, and/or other functionalities.

Abstract:
A system and method for detecting a suspicious object, including a wireless signal transmitter with first and second transmitter antennas, a first wireless signal receiver on an opposite side of the object from the transmitter having first and second receiver antennas, and a second wireless signal receiver on a same side of the object as the transmitter having a third receiver antenna. The transmitter may emit wireless signals from each of the transmitter antennas. The signals emitted by the first transmitter antenna may be received at the first and second receiver antennas. The signals emitted by both transmitter antennas may be received at the third receiver antenna. The object's material type may be determined based on channel state information of the wireless signals received at first receiver. A size of the object may be determined based on channel state information of the wireless signals received at the second receiver.

Abstract:
A user input system comprising a vibration motor, a sensor and a processor in communication with the sensor. The vibration motor is in contact with a surface and generates vibrations in the surface. The vibrations can be altered by a user touching the surface to create altered vibrations. The sensor is in contact with the surface and detects the altered vibrations. The processor receives and analyzes data corresponding to the altered vibrations. The processor determines, based on the analyzed data, whether a user's touch on the surface matches a stored vibration profile of the user.
The development of this new material is described this week in the journal RSC: Applied Polymers, in a paper by MIT Professor Thomas J. Wallin, University of Utah Professor Chen Wang, and seven others.

Researchers build new device that is a foundation for quantum computing
"This is desirable in quantum computing," says senior author Chen Wang, assistant professor of physics at UMass Amherst, "because there are many computing scenarios where you want to give plenty of access to data without giving anyone the power to alter or degrade that data."
Wang is a co-author of the study along with Chen Wang, Xiaonan Guo, Bo Liu, and lead researcher Yingying Chen from the Stevens Institute of Technology. The group is collaborating on this and other mobile device-related security and privacy projects.

Schrödinger's Cat 2.0: New Thought Experiment Combines Quantum Entanglement And Superposition
This cat is big and smart. It doesn't stay in one box because the quantum state is shared between the two cavities and cannot be described separately, lead author Chen Wang, a postdoctoral associate at Yale University, said in a statement. One can also take an alternative view, where we have two

Dead or Alive, Schrödinger's Cat Can Be in 2 Boxes at Once
"We are showing an analogy to Schrdinger's cat that is made out of an electromagnetic field that is confined in two cavities," said study lead author Chen Wang, a physicist at Yale University. "The interesting thing here is the cat is in two boxes at once." [What's That? Your Physics Questio
