Abstract:

This invention relates to a brushless slip ring using bearing for transmitting voltage and current between rotating rotor and stator. The invention relates to attaching a magnet to the slip ring to create a more stable rotor, eliminating sparks and erosions caused by the disconnection at times to the stator by enforcing a magnetic pull to the stator wall. In addition, a cooling-filtering system with synthetic oil can provide sufficient and constant clean lubrication.

Abstract:

An optical switch for use in a fiber optic telecommunications network is disclosed. An important feature of the inventive switch is its multicast capability. The inventive switch utilizes two internal networks, an optical network for transmission and an electronic network for control. Illustratively, the transmission network is an optical star network which links the input ports and output ports of the invention switch. The electronic control network is in the form of a track of ring which surrounds the optical star and sequentially connects the input and output ports.

Abstract:

A hypersurface orbital model is presented that orbits a ball on a surface called a hypersurface. A stepper motor drive arrangement, with two-degrees of freedom, is used to change the hypersurface viewed by the ball as a function of time. System control is added to ensure that the ball will orbit in the proper orbit. Control consists of a stepper motor, a clock, a solenoid launcher and various logical circuits. Counters keep track of the period so that the exact rotational speed can be referenced to set the ball launcher.

A novel catalytic material is prepared by dispersing a catalytically active species, e. g. , one or more platinum group metals, on a support phase that contains a high porosity, meso-pores high surface area (HPMPHSA) material. The HPMPHSA material has a porosity, measured in milliliters per gram of material, that is typically at least about 30 percent greater than that of a corresponding conventional material, preferably at least 50 percent greater. In a particular embodiment, the support phase of the catalytic material contains a HPMPHSA alumina having a porosity of about 0. 9 ml/g, whereas a conventional alumina typically has a porosity of about 0. 45 ml/g. Abstract:

An adjustable supine cycling machine is an apparatus that efficiently exercises and strengthens abdominal muscles. The apparatus targets the all of the abdominal muscles from all angles. As the user pedals, the user may retract or extend his or her legs and tilt his or her legs in order to activate all the muscles of the abdominal region. The apparatus includes a leg-exercising device, a support base, a lifting arm, and a linear actuator. A spherical bearing allows the tilt of the leg-exercising device. The leg-exercising device is preferably a cycling machine. The lifting arm pivots the leg-exercising device about the support base and is controlled by the linear actuator. The apparatus preferably applies resistance to the rotary movement of the leg-exercising device in order to strengthen the abdominal muscles. The resistance is adjusted by a control unit.
