Corrosion Inhibited Antifreeze Compositions And Process For Inhibiting The Corrosion Of Solder Alloys
Daniel R. Dutton - Woodhaven MI John W. Compton - Taylor MI
Assignee:
BASF Wyandotte Corporation - Wyandotte MI
International Classification:
C09K 500 C23F 1112
US Classification:
252 76
Abstract:
A novel antifreeze composition is provided which comprises a water soluble liquid alcohol freezing point depressant and an inhibitor. The freezing point depressant is preferably at least one water soluble alcohol containing from one to four carbon atoms inclusive and from one to four hydroxy groups inclusive such as ethylene glycol. The inhibitor comprises at least one substance selected from the group consisting of A. compounds corresponding to the following structural formula: ##SPC1## Wherein R. sub. 1 is an alkylene radical containing from zero to 12 carbon atoms inclusive, R. sub. 2 is an alkyl radical containing from one to 10 carbon atoms inclusive and R. sub. 3 is an alkylene radical containing from one to 12 carbon atoms inclusive, and B. the mono- and di-metal salts, the mono- and di-ammonium salts, and the mono- and di-amides of compounds corresponding to the above structural formula. The presently preferred inhibitor comprises 1-carboxy-2-hexyl-5-(7-carboxyheptyl)-cyclohex-3-ene, or the mono- and di-metal salts, ammonium salts, and amides thereof.
Polyester-Starch Sized Paper, Sizing Composition, And Process Therefor

BASF Wyandotte Corporation - Wyandotte MI
International Classification:
B05D 302 B05D 312
US Classification:
427361
Abstract:
There is disclosed a cellulosic material such as paper or paperboard surface-sized with an aqueous dispersion of a combination of degraded starch or a starch derivative and a branched-chain, water-dispersible polyester condensation product. Said polyester is derived from the reaction of a dicarboxylic reactant, a diol or polyoxyalkylene glycol, and a phosphorus acid reactant wherein said polyester has a carboxylic acid number of about 5 to about 15 and an average molecular weight of about 4,000 to about 11,000. Mixtures of said starch and said polyester when used to surface-size cellulosic materials impart water resistance thereto.

Abstract:
A glycol-based antifreeze formulation containing as a defoaming agent, from 0. 001% to about 1. 0% by weight of a mixture containing a compound of the formula ##STR1## WHEREIN R is an alkyl, alkoxyalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, or dihydroxyalkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, R. sup. 1 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, R. sup. 2 is an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, p is an integer from 1 to 20, and n is an integer from 1 to 14; and a compound of the formula RO--(C. sub. 6 H. sub. 10 O. sub. 5). sub. p --H wherein R and p are as defined above.
Anionic Biocide Emulsions In Aqueous Solutions Of Strongly Ionizable Salts
Thomas M. Kaneko - Trenton MI Daniel R. Dutton - Grosse Ile MI Bongsub Kim - Grosse Ile MI
Assignee:
BASF Wyandotte Corporation - Wyandotte MI
International Classification:
A01N 3718 A01N 3302
US Classification:
71118
Abstract:
Highly stable emulsions of biocides in liquid fertilizer compositions are disclosed which offer unexpected stability thus permitting application of both biocides and liquid fertilizers simultaneously. The improved emulsion stability can be obtained by utilizing higher polyoxyalkylene glycol ethoxylate esters or combinations thereof with certain anionic emulsifiers. Stable aqueous emulsions are also disclosed.
