Abstract:
A technique for bridging the gap between an initial call and a return call by using network capabilities to capture the callers information and by providing efficacious means for reaching the caller at a later time. The subscribed user, i. e. , the called party, is provided with an opportunity to access a self-generating return call list which stores the names and the telephone numbers of the callers who could not speak to the subscribed user e. g. , the subscribed user was not available to answer within a predetermined number of rings or was busy with another call. In addition, the system may be configured to create entries in the return call list for all incoming calls to the subscribed user, irrespective of whether the incoming calls were answered or not. The subscribed user may at any time access the return call list, either from his own telephone or some other DTMF telephone set.

Abstract:
A system and method of providing a telephone calling card service including the steps of providing a user with an access number to a telephone network and a personal identification code, prompting the user to input a personal identification code to initiate automatic dialing of at least one pre-selected telephone number associated with the personal identification code, and determining whether a call has been successfully completed to a called party via the pre-selected telephone number. The system may continue dialing pre-selected telephone numbers until a call has been successfully connected. In the alternative, the system may automatically and simultaneously dial all of the pre-selected phone numbers. An arrangement for determining whether an answering machine has answered a call is also provided. To implement the method, a telephone communications apparatus is used including a structure for recording a series of telephone numbers associated with a personal identification code, and a structure for retrieving the telephone numbers associated with the code and automatically dialing the telephone numbers until a call has been successfully completed to an individual.

Abstract:
A technique for creating, training, and using a telecommunication network-based automatic voice-dialing system is provided through the automatic determination, by a network element, of likely called parties for a given customer. This determination is made based on records of network usage by the customer. Names of the likely called parties are determined through the use of, e. g. , a conventional reverse telephone directory database.

Abstract:
A telecommunications network-based method for alerting a calling party, placed on hold by the called party, that a called party is ready to communicate comprising the steps of receiving an activation signal for activating the network-based system; monitoring the called party's telephone line for availability, where "availability" refers to the situation when the called party removes the hold condition or when the called party is ready to communicate with the calling party, and informing the called party that the Call Hold Stand-by service is alerting the calling party that the called party is available. The network-based method can operate as calling party feature, independent of the called party, or as a feature that is provided by the called party to the calling party.

Abstract:
A voice dialing system that includes a voice dialing device and a terminal. The voice dialing device is coupled to the terminal through a network. The voice dialing device stores a telephone directory that includes text-based and voice entries. The terminal is coupled to the voice dialing device through a network and sends to the voice dialing device text-based telephone directory information. The voice dialing device modifies the telephone directory based on the text-based telephone directory information sent by the terminal. At a later time, a subscriber calls and the voice dialing device selects an entry from the telephone directory based on a name spoken by the subscriber. The voice dialing device dials a telephone number retrieved from the selected entry of the telephone directory and connects the subscriber with a called party.
A call through a telecommunications network (10) that is dialed by a caller (12) to a lifetime number of a subscriber (14) that may be in common with the lifetime number of at least one other subscriber is routed in accordance with the past call history of one of the calling party and the subscribers with lifetime numbers common to the dialed number. The call from the caller is routed to that lifetime number subscriber to whom the caller has previously called on the basis that the caller is more likely to want a connection with someone who the caller had previously called.
Caller Directed Routing Of A Telephone Call Based On A Dialed Suffix
The routing of telephone calls in a telecommunications network is enhanced by providing a method for associating a plurality of telephone numbers assigned to a particular subscriber with respective codes such that a caller may dial one of the subscriber's telephone numbers and a code associated with another one of the subscriber's telephone number in order to direct the routing of the call to the latter telephone number.
