Abstract:

A multipart intervertebral implant is provided which includes an implant portion and an implant extender portion. The implant portion and the implant extender portion can be fastened together using any known fastening means including pins, interlocking structure (e. g. , dovetail, tongue and groove, etc. ), adhesives, etc. The size of the implant extender portion can be selected during a surgical procedure to provide an implant suitable for a particular intervertebral receiving bed. An intervertebral implant is also provided which may be formed from a multiplicity of implant sections which are fastened together to provide an implant having a desired length. Implants having surface configurations which more closely correspond to the configuration of vertebral endplates are also provided.

Abstract:

Spinal and other implants may be bone or synthetic material shaped as rings, C-shaped or rectangular and so on and also may have serrated wedge shaped top and bottom surfaces to match the disc space lordosis of adjacent ertebra and so on. The implants have one or more recesses aligned in an insertion direction at either or both outer peripheral sides of the implant. In a ring implant, e.g., formed from a transverse slice of the diaphysis of a long bone or otherwise, the recesses are aligned overlying the opposing sides of the ring parallel to the insertion direction, which sides are stronger than the more central region overlying and aligned with a central chamber in the implant. The alignment ith the opposing sides minimizes damage to the implant at the weaker more central region in response to implant insertion forces. One or two spaced recesses on opposite sides of an implant have surface(s) transverse to the insertion direction receive the tips of implant insertion gripping jaws for receiving an insertion load imparted by the tips. The recesses may have gripping surfaces extending in the insertion direction, which may be anterior/posterior or at an angle to the anterior/posterior direction for insertion laterally or anterior/laterally to the anterior/posterior direction. Such an implant may be non-bone and may be used to support or fuse bone not limited to the spine. Various embodiments of insertion tools and implants are disclosed.

Abstract:

The present invention provides a tibial prosthetic knee component. The prosthesis includes a tibial tray having a posterior rail and an anterior rail, and a tibial insert. The tibial insert has a posterior dovetailed surface matching the posterior rail in the tibial tray, and an anterior surface matching the anterior rail in the tibial tray. The posterior rail of the tibial tray and the posterior dovetailed surface of the tibial insert are curved to provide clearance for the posterior cruciate ligament. A retaining clip is provided for retaining the tibial insert in the tibial tray. The clip includes a tab which extends through the tray into the insert and a resilient holding member remains unloaded when loads are applied to the knee, reducing the likelihood of dissociation of the tray and insert.

Abstract:

Methods are disclosed for determining an efficacy of a stimulus based on one or more measurable physiological responses to one or more stimuli including one or more stimulus features. Data is acquired on physiological responses of a group of one or more subjects to presentation of one or more stimuli including one or more stimulus features. The data on the one or more physiological responses of the one or more subjects is correlated with the presentation of the one or more stimulus features included in the one or more stimuli. The correlated data on the one or more physiological responses are associated with a separately-determined efficacy of the one or more stimuli to form a stimulus efficacy model. From this information, a projected efficacy of a stimulus is determinable by comparing one or more subsequently-measured physiological responses to the stimulus with the stimulus efficacy model.
