Abstract:

Apparatus and methods are disclosed for providing a desired spectral intensity profile from a broadband light source. The apparatus comprises separation means for separating light provided by the broadband light source into radiation having a continuum of wavelengths; a blocking element having a first side and a second side, the first side having a two-dimensional surface with a desired blocking contour configured thereon, the blocking element positioned relative to the separation means so as to receive the radiation separated into the continuum of wavelengths onto the first side thereof and allow a portion of the radiation to pass from the first side to the second side, wherein the portion of the radiation conforms to the desired blocking contour; and recombination means for recombining the portion of the radiation conforming to the desired blocking contour into the desired spectral intensity profile.

Abstract:

This invention relates to a coated powder material containing a powder material having a surface layer that has been chemically immobilized with one or more surface-active agents and coated with an oil. The surface-active agents are present in an amount of at least about 0.1% by weight, based on the powder material; the oil is present in an amount ranging from about 0.1 to 180% by weight, based on the powder material; and the combined weight percentage of the surface-active agents and oil is at least about 4.0% by weight, based on the powder material. The oil-absorption rate of the powder material ranges from about 0.01 to about 0.70 gram of oil per gram of dry powder. The coated powder material is useful as a cosmetic.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus for simultaneously processing both sides of a film sheet include a pair of carrier webs extending through a nip defining mechanism and a dispenser for depositing a bead of the processing material on the carrier webs in the nip. The carrier webs are advanced through the nip by a distance greater than the length of the film sheet to be processed in order to spread the processing material, and then retracted and separated. The film sheet is fed to between the carrier webs at those areas which are covered with processing material. The carrier webs with the film sheet between them are advanced through a gap of predetermined width to press the processing material on the carrier webs into contact with the film sheet, thereby forming a sandwich. The film sheet remains in the sandwich for a suitable imbibition time, after which the film sheet is delivered. In one embodiment, the processing material takes the form of a frozen body which is deposited onto the carrier webs and melted.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus for processing discrete rapid access of photographic film sheets exemplified by diffusion transfer film and film processing in which one or more sheets to be processed are supported on the working surface of one of two webs trained to pass through a processing gap defined by a pinch roller pair, for example. The discrete sheets are secured to either or both of the webs by adhesive means which may be releasable where the sheet being processed to be discharged as a product or permanent where the sheet or other component of the film system is to be retained for disposal with the web to which it is secured. The method and apparatus is applicable to single sheet film systems or to negative/positive film sheet systems wherein the image of an exposed negative is transferred to a positive sheet upon the application of processing fluid therebetween.

Abstract:

Processing apparatus for spreading processing fluid uniformly over photochemical layers on one or more photographic sheets by progressive pressure applied by rolling surfaces provided on large diameter calendering members. To achieve the large diameter rolling surface, the calendering members are defined by cylindrical sectors having a circumferential length corresponding to the length of sheets to be processed and supported by means effective to bring the respective cylindrical surfaces of both members into contact with opposite sides of the processed sheets. In one embodiment, the calendering members are semi-cylindrical, whereas in another embodiment the members are quadrants of cylinders.
