Abstract:

An in-flight entertainment (IFE) system includes a network having at least one wireless router for communicating wirelessly between a network server and one or more video display unit (VDU) in the cabin. The wireless transmission of video signals provides a reduced architecture that avoids a need for cables to carry a signal to the VDU's. In an embodiment, the IFE system further facilitates the use of a remote wireless device, such as a laptop computer, as the VDU. Clients may select from a variety of programs which can be distributed in an on-demand or broadcast manner. Encryption means are further provided to enable control over content distribution to only authorized devices.

Abstract:

A method and system for processing digital video is described. The invention permits fast forwarding, rewinding, pausing and resuming a digital video that is delivered over a computer network. In various embodiments of the invention, reduced-information frames (e.g., P-frames and B-frames) are skipped, samplings of complete frames (e.g., I-frames) are transmitted, and delay predictions are made to compensate for the lag time to enhance pause/resume functionality. The invention can be used delivering digital video in a low bandwidth environment. Moreover, the invention can be used in conjunction with any video standard in which there are a mix of full frames and reduced-information frames.

Abstract:

A system for providing on-demand video on an aircraft is described. In various implementations, the system includes a first computer that receives broadcast video content, digital video players distributed within a passenger seating area of the aircraft, and a second computer. The second computer receives the video content from the first computer, and provides the video content, on-demand, to a subset of the digital video players. The system also includes a third computer that receives the video content from the first computer, and provides the video content, on-demand, to another subset of the plurality of digital video players. The first computer may provide the video content to the second and third computers using a multicast protocol. The video content may include a live television broadcast or a television channel that was requested by a user of one or more of the digital video players.

Abstract:

A vehicle entertainment system is controlled responsive to gestures that are formed by a passenger of the vehicle. The vehicle entertainment system includes a display device, at least one gesture control camera, and a processor. The gesture control camera generates a camera signal responsive to light reflected from at least one object within a field of view of the at least one gesture control camera. The processor analyzes the camera signal to identify a gesture made by a passenger moving the at least one object, and controls at least one operation of the vehicle entertainment system responsive to the identified gesture.

A portable electronic basketball game having a housing containing control circuitry and mounting a display and input controls. The display shows both offensive and defensive players and a ball.
