Abstract:

Apparatus and methodology for inserting an intraocular lens (IOL) into an eye. The apparatus includes a cartridge for holding an IOL and a handpiece with a body member for receiving the cartridge, an injector rod that is receivable by the body member, and a drive mechanism that longitudinally oscillates the injector rod in the body member when a rotational force is applied about a longitudinal axis in a single direction. In other words, a constant rotation in a single direction of the drive mechanism causes the injector rod to move distally and proximally in discrete increments, with the distal increments being larger than the proximal increments. Accordingly, the injector rod urges an IOL out of the handpiece in a two-steps-forward, one-step-back manner, thereby minimizing or eliminating the chance of the injector rod engaging with the IOL.

A foldable intraocular lens for providing vision contains an optic body that includes an optical zone and a peripheral zone entirely surrounding the optical zone. The optic body has an anterior face, a substantially opposing posterior face, an optic edge, and an optical axis. The anterior face comprises a central face, a peripheral face, and a recessed annular face therebetween that is disposed posterior to the peripheral face. The intraocular lens further comprises at least one haptic that is integrally formed with the peripheral zone. The haptic comprises a distal posterior face, a proximal posterior face, and a step edge disposed at a boundary therebetween. The haptic further comprises a side edge disposed between the optic edge and the step edge. The proximal posterior face and the posterior face of the optic body form a continuous surface. An edge corner is formed by the intersection of the continuous surface with the optic edge, the side edge, and the step edge.

Abstract:

The present invention provides a modular system for mounting one or more medical devices on an IV pole at a patient's bedside. The system comprises a support plate, and at least one modular interconnection receptacle adapted to be detachably mounted on the support plate and adapted to receive a medical device. In one embodiment, the interconnection receptacle has electrical connection means serving as an electrical conduit between the medical device and a monitor. The means for attaching the medical device to the interconnection receptacle has a greater retention force than the means for attaching the interconnection receptacle to the support plate. Thus, in response to a threshold force on the patient line connected to the medical device, the interconnection receptacle breaks free of the support plate while the medical device remains attached to the interconnection receptacle. This maintains fluid connection to the patient and electrical connection to a monitor in the case of a medical device, such as a pressure transducer.

Abstract:

An improved yoke socket for use with separate leads and plugs such as those used with electrocardiogram devices provides detents to guard against accidental disconnection of plugs from the socket. A first surface of the yoke socket bears a row of apertures into which can be inserted connectors born by the individual lead plugs. A groove penetrates a second surface of the yoke socket to expose the inserted connectors. Each connector has a notch that acts in concert with a retaining rod placed within the groove to retain the plug against accidental detaching. The retaining rod comprises a series of expanded or bead-like portions connected by thinner rod portions. The expanded portion is sized to protrude into each aperture from the groove to serve as a detent by interacting with the notch of an inserted connector. The entire retaining rod is backed by a layer of compressed elastomer such as rubber which acts to bias the retaining rod into contact with the connector. A two piece plug combiner is also provided for temporarily aggregating a group of lead plugs into a single unit.
