Abstract:

An ultrasonic diagnostic imaging apparatus and method are provided for segmenting signals from nonlinear targets such as microbubble contrast agents. Received echo signals are separated into their constituent linear and nonlinear components by a Doppler filter using pulse inversion separation. A threshold level is derived from an estimate made of the contributions to the echo signal from linear scattering and noise. Echo signals which exceed the threshold level are segmented as nonlinear (microbubble-originating) signals and displayed as such, whereas signals not exceeding the threshold are suppressed in the image display.

Abstract:

An ultrasonic diagnostic imaging system and method are presented to determine low rates of blood flow using contrast agents. Pairs of differently modulated pulses are transmitted in several beam directions to acquire echoes which can be combined to separate harmonic frequencies by pulse inversion. The pulses of each pair are transmitted in rapid succession to minimize motional artifacts. The transmission in the different beam directions is time-interleaved, resulting in the sampling of each beam direction over a long ensemble time for the detection of low rates of flow.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus are described for ultrasonically imaging tiny blood vessels with the aid of a contrast agent. The locations of microbubbles of the contrast agent are detected in a series of images as the microbubbles move through the blood vessels. These images are temporally processed to identify the moving microbubbles, and persistence processed to depict images which show the tracks followed by the microbubbles through the blood vessels. A maximum intensity persistence can be used to show the steady buildup of microbubble tracks through the vasculature, or a slow decay employed so that the tracks will fade to black over time.

Abstract:

A method and system of strain gain compensation in elasticity imaging is provided. The system can include a probe () for transmitting ultrasonic energy into a physiology () of a patient () and receiving echoes, a display device (), and a processor () operably coupled to the probe and the display device. The processor can process ultrasound imaging data associated with an applied stress of the physiology of the patient. The processor can generate a strain compensation function associated with the applied stress based on at least one of (i) user inputs based on expected results associated with a portion of the physiology, (ii) a strain compensation model generated prior to processing the ultrasound imaging data, and (iii) at least a portion of the imaging data. The processor can apply the strain compensation function to the imaging data to generate a compensated strain image. The processor can present on the display device at least one of the compensated strain image and an inverse of the compensated strain image.

An ultrasonic diagnostic imaging method and system produce diagnostic contrast images depicting both tissue perfusion and flow velocity in larger vessels by utilizing both linear and nonlinear imaging techniques. A sequence of echoes from differently modulated transmit pulses is received and processed in different ways to detect nonlinear signals from microbubble-perfused tissue and Doppler blood flow in larger vessels. The Doppler flow signals may be either linear or nonlinear or a mixture of both. A decision circuit classifies the detected signals for display pixels in a perfusion and/or flow and/or tissue image. Separate perfusion and flow images can be simultaneously displayed or an image of both perfusion and flow can be displayed.

An ultrasonic diagnostic imaging system produces audio Doppler from detected Doppler signals. The Doppler signals are detected in a band of frequencies which corresponds to the velocity of blood flow signals, and Doppler information is displayed based on the detected band of frequencies. The audio Doppler system produces Doppler audio in a frequency band which is shifted in pitch from the detected band of frequencies. The operator of the ultrasound system is provided with a user control by which the degree of pitch shifting can be controlled. The ultrasound system displays Doppler blood flow velocities referenced to a transmit Doppler frequency f, with the audio Doppler being shifted in pitch from the frequencies corresponding to the blood flow velocities.

Abstract:

Ultrasound image devices, systems, and methods are provided. An ultrasound imaging system comprising a sequence generation component configured to generate a transmit pulse sequence comprising a first pulse sequence and a second pulse sequence time offset with respect to the first pulse sequence; a transmitter in communication with the sequence generation component and an ultrasound imaging component, the transmitter configured to transmit the transmit pulse sequence to the ultrasound imaging component to trigger, at the ultrasound imaging component, ultrasound wave emissions towards an anatomical object; a receiver configured to receive, from the ultrasound imaging component, ultrasound echo signals in response to the transmit pulse sequence; and a processing component in communication with the receiver and configured to generate at least one of structural data or motion data associated with the anatomical object based on the received ultrasound echo signals.
