Abstract:

A server in a network gathers textual information, such as news items, E-mail and the like. From that information, the server develops or identifies messages for use by individual subscribers. The same server that accumulates the text messages or another server in the network converts the textual information in each message to a sequence of speech synthesizer instructions. The converted messages, containing the sequences of speech synthesizer instructions, are transmitted to each identified subscriber's terminal device. A synthesizer in the terminal generates an audio waveform signal, representing the speech information, in response to the instructions. In the preferred embodiment, the terminals utilize concatenative type speech synthesizers, each of which has an associated vocabulary of stored fundamental sound samples. The instructions identify the sound samples, in order. The instructions also provide parameters for controlling characteristics of the signal generated during waveform synthesis for each sound sample in each sequence.

Abstract:

It has been found that printing elements can be prepared from a water-soluble photopolymer composition comprising (1) a water-soluble thermoplastic ethylene oxide copolymer containing 50-96% ethylene oxide, (2) from about 0. 5 to about 25% by weight based on the ethylene oxide copolymer of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer having its unsaturation in the form of at least two ##STR1## groups, wherein R is hydrogen or a C. sub. 1 -C. sub. 3 alkyl group, and (3) from about 0. 1 to about 10% by weight based on the ethylene oxide copolymer of a photoinitiator thermally stable at temperatures up to about 150. degree. C. The above described photopolymer composition can be thermoformed, such as by extrusion or compression molding.

The invention concerns a process for making photographic images. The process involves the photooxidation of a film of a photosensitive composition containing certain essential components to form peroxides in the exposed areas of the film, and decomposition of the peroxides to form a crosslinked polymer in the exposed areas. Abstract:

Described is a metering pump that may be used to meter volumes of sample in a chromatography system. The metering pump has a modular configuration that allows for separation of a head pod from a drive assembly for easy serviceability. The head pod includes a pump head, cartridge housing, seal wash housing and plunger. The drive assembly can be implemented in an inline drive configuration. Alternatively, the drive assembly can be implemented in an offset drive configuration in which a stepper motor is displaced laterally from other drive assembly components but is coupled through a belt and pulley system.

Abstract:

An inductive power system including an inductive power transmitter coupled to a non-conductive medium, and a power cord that electrically couples the transmitter to an AC power source. The inductive power transmitter is configured to emit an electromagnetic field based on the received AC power. There is an inductive power receiver coupled to the non-conductive medium and separated from the transmitter, wherein the receiver is configured to receive the electromagnetic field after it has passed through the non-conductive medium and in response develop power. A power cord electrically couples the developed power to a power sink.
