Abstract:
A system for measuring hydrogen (H) and oxygen (O) including a sample system, a signal processing and system control device, at least one polarograph device and a computing device equipped with software for environmental and biological data analysis incorporating both user-defined and environmental data acquired by the signal processing and system control device. The system measures gas level or exchange (production and/or consumption) in the field or laboratory. In some embodiments, the system uses two Clark-type polarograph devices oppositely polarized with gas-specific polarographic circuits, wherein one polarograph device measures Hgas and the other measures Ogas. In some embodiments, the sample system includes an environmentally-controlled sample housing for accepting the polarograph devices and holding a test sample in a reservoir. The system measures Hor Oexchange in microbial samples, including microbial phototrophs which couple light harvesting to Hand/or Oexchange.
Treatment Of Pulmonary Vascular Remodeling With Neprilysin
The present invention relates to agonists of Neprilysin and their use in preventing and treating pulmonary vascular remodeling. Also described are diagnostic and screening applications stemming from the inventor's discovery that Neprilysin is expressed at reduced levels in disease tissues.
A device is described for attracting fish to an area of a body of water. The device includes a length of flexible airtight hose which can be inflated to form it into a circular buoyant frame. The circular area is covered with a sheet of flexible opaque material and the assembly is placed on the water and anchored in place. Small bait fish are attracted to the shadowed region under the opaque sheet, and the small fish attract larger game fish which can be sought by commerical and/or sports fishermen.
A collar assembly is described, for use on a concrete cutter, which enables the major portion of the machine to be easily detached from a stuck sawblade and moved forwardly or rearwardly away from the blade so the blade can be cut out. The outer end of the shaft has a recess of the same diameter as the hole in the blade, and has a smaller threaded hole therein. The outer blade plate which lies on a face of the blade opposite the shaft, has a projecting collar that passes through the hole in the blade and into the recess in the face of the shaft, and a screw passing through the parts fastens them together.
Method Of Using Pkc Inhibiting Compounds To Treat Vascular Disease
A method for treating pulmonary and systemic vascular diseases associated with cardiac hypotrophy, dysfunction or failure that involves the administration of an effective amount of a PKC antagonist to a patient suffering from one of such diseases is disclosed. PKC antagonists are selected from bryostatin derivatives and more preferably from bryostatin-1. The disease states treatable in accordance with the present invention are characterized by alterations in vascular structure, vascular tone, myocardial hypotrophy, dysfunction or failure, idiopathic pulmonary hypertension and chronic hypoxic pulmonary hypertension. Particular formulations include bryostatin-1 in an effective amount to treat one or more of the above-referenced diseases.

Abstract:
A control system for a cutting machine is disclosed in which the relative motion between a cutting tool, supported by a cutting motor, and the material to be cut is controlled by a feed motor. The cutting motor load level is continuously monitored and used to derive a load level signal which is related to the cutting motor load level and a desired cutting load level. The feed motor's forward speed is controlled to increase at a selected fixed rate until the cutting motor load level is substantially equal to the desired cutting load level. Whenever the cutting motor load level increases above the desired cutting load level, representing an overload condition, the speed of the feed motor in the forward direction is reduced at the rate of increase of the overload condition. If the cutting motor load level exceeds a threshold load level, the feed motor is driven in a reverse direction at a speed which increases or decreases at a rate related to the rate at which the cutting motor load level increases above or decreases toward said threshold load level.
