The enhanced LSESr may have a ratio of free fatty acids to total fatty acids that is greater than about 80.0% and an enrichment of lauric, myristic, oleic and linoleic acids as free fatty acids to total free fatty acids that is greater than about 82.0%. An enrichment of linoleic and linolenic acids together may be greater than about 3.7%.

A method of making the enhanced LSESr includes subjecting aged saw palmetto powder to supercritical CO extraction followed by first and second separations.
