Abstract:

An electronic voice recognition system utilizes a microphone having noise-cancelling characteristics and a standardizer network to achieve further noise reduction and signal standardization over a range of input levels. The output of the standardizer is coupled to voice processor circuitry which provides a computer-compatable output corresponding to the voice information received. The system may be embodied in a multi-station environment in which the voice reception stations are coupled to a remote central processing location. A variety of processing techniques, including analog and digital, parallel and sequential, may be utilized to pass the voice signals to the processors. Upon successful processing, a confirmation signal is passed to the appropriate voice-originating station.

Abstract:

Methods of forming a microfluidic device include: combining a volume of uncured liquid silicone based polymer with a volume of adhesive polymer to provide a flowable material; applying the flowable material to a mold and curing the flowable material on the mold to form a microfluidic device layer comprising an exposed face with at least one channel or chamber; and contacting the exposed face of the microfluidic device layer to a substrate to adhere the microfluidic device layer to the substrate to enclose the at least one channel or chamber to form a microfluidic device. Other methods include combining a volume of uncured liquid silicone based polymer with a volume of adhesive polymer to provide an intermediary material; applying a layer of the intermediary material to a substrate and curing the layer of the intermediary material on the substrate; obtaining a silicon based polymer that comprises an exposed face that comprises at least one channel or chamber; and contacting the exposed face of the silicon based polymer to the cured layer of the intermediary material, wherein the exposed face of the silicon based polymer adheres to the cured layer of the intermediary material to enclose the at least one channel or chamber to form a microfluidic device. Also disclosed are microfluidic devices and sensors comprising the microfluidic devices.

Abstract:

A wearable sensor apparatus is disclosed that includes a flexible substrate adapted to be coupled with a skin surface of an expectant mother. A conductor is disposed on the flexible substrate. The conductor can include micron-scale invaginations. The conductor can be capable of repeatable variation in resistance when subject to a strain. Also disclosed is a system for monitoring the health of a fetus in utero that includes a wearable sensor apparatus. The wearable sensor apparatus is configured to output a signal responsive to an electrical input. The system includes a computing system with one or more hardware processors. The computing system is programmed to implement a signal processing module configured to access the output signal from the wearable strain gauge and generate an output indicative of health of the baby in utero. The output can be based in part on the received output signal and previously stored correlations between signal data from the wearable strain gauge and observations of the system or of the mother. A user interface module can be provided and can be configured to display an output indicative of health of the baby in utero.
