Abstract:

Methods and apparatus are provided for serving ice cream with a chemically-heated ice cream scoop. The scoop comprises a bowl and a handle with an interior cavity filled with a nontoxic, supercoolable salt solution. The salt solution may be selectively crystallized by triggering an activator in fluid communication with the solution. Crystallization evolves a significant amount of heat that is used to elevate the temperature of the scoop bowl, thereby decreasing the cutting force required to separate a serving of ice cream from a storage container and reducing adherence of the ice cream within the scoop bowl. After use, the scoop may be recharged by elevating the temperature of the crystallized solution above its crystallization temperature. The process of crystallization, melting, and supercooling may be repeated indefinitely.

Abstract:

A network processing device stores and aligns data received from an input port prior to forwarding the data to an output port. Data packets arrive at various input ports already having an output queue or virtual output queue assigned. A buffer manager groups one or more packets destined for the same output queue into blocks, and stores the blocks in a buffer memory. A linked list is created of the trunks, which is an ordered collection of blocks. The trunks are sent to a high speed second memory and stored together as a unit. In some embodiments the trunks are split on boundaries and stored in a high speed memory. Once the trunks are stored in the high speed second memory, the corresponding data is erased from the write combine buffer memory and the pointers that made up the linked list are returned to a free block pointer pool. The data can then be read from the high speed second memory very quickly, passed through a switching fabric, and placed back on the computer network for its next destination. In other embodiments, the trunk data is stored after passing through the switching fabric, before being placed back on the computer network.

Abstract:

There are disclosed techniques for power control in an Optical Network Unit (ONU) of a Passive Optical Network (PON). In one embodiment, the supply of power to an optical transmitter is controlled in accordance with information defining a plurality of transmission windows during which data can be transmitted from the ONU, in order to achieve the following: (1) to provide power to the optical transmitter beginning at a predetermined time in advance of a transmission window to ensure a laser in the optical transmitter is ready to begin transmitting the data at the start of the transmission window; and (2) to refrain from providing full power to the optical transmitter between transmission windows when the duration of time between the transmission windows is greater than a predetermined length.

Abstract:

There are disclosed systems and methods for detecting whether an Optical Network Unit (ONU) in a network may be causing a communications interference due to laser overlap. In one embodiment, an Optical Line Terminal (OLT) selects a pair of ONUs suspected of possibly causing laser overlap. The OLT then grants a first window to a first ONU for transmitting a first message, and grants to another ONU different from the pair of ONUs a second window for transmitting a second message. If the first message is not received by the OLT, then the OLT indicates that the first ONU may be causing laser overlap. In another embodiment, the OLT grants to an ONU a window for transmitting a message to the OLT. If the message is not received by the OLT when expected, then the OLT indicates that the ONU may be causing laser overlap. Other embodiments are disclosed.

A method and a circuit for detecting zero crossing points for a brushless, sensorless, three-phase DC motor operated in a PWM mode. The circuit senses a BEMF signal in a floating coil and generates a first signal when the BEMF signal is separated from the center tap voltage by a selected offset voltage amount. The circuit overrides the PWM mode and drives a high side driving transistor to a conducting state until the zero crossing point is detected.

In one embodiment, a method includes rendering, for a VR display device and based on a field of view of a user, a first output image of a VR environment comprising a virtual boundary corresponding to a real-world environment; determining, responsive to the user approaching within a first threshold distance of the virtual boundary, a speed of movement and the field of view of the user; accessing one or more images of the real-world environment captured by one or more cameras of the VR display device; and rendering, for the VR display device, a second output image comprising a portion of the VR environment and a portion of a passthrough view of the real-world environment based on the accessed images, where an area of the portion of the passthrough view is based on the determined speed of movement and the field of view of the user.
