Abstract:

A motion system includes a first stage that is configured to rotate about a first axis and a second stage coupled to the first stage that includes an object carrier adapted to position an object in at least one other axis. The motion system has a novel arrangement of laser interferometer elements and axes of motion. The arrangement permits accurate and precise measurement of a position of the object carrier in up to three (or more) axes of motion even as the first stage of the motion system is tilted through relatively large angles. The novel arrangement of the axes of motion also enables very precise control of the position of the object carrier even at high tilt angles.

Abstract:

Animal health and wellbeing is of significance to our society, whether the animal is wild or domesticated. Many humans have practiced methods to secure animal interests in both their natural habitats and in modern day society/homes. The presented device is designed around these principles for the wellbeing and humane treatment of the animal, while it is being caged, crated, and/or kenneled. The invention is a portable unit that may be added/attached universally to the outside of any cage, crate, kennel or specialized porous animal pad, and provide air conditioning for the animal within the enclosure. The invention is powered by either a DC or AC supply, so it may be used in the home and on the road. The complete device conceived as “Kool Kennel” and/or “Kool Kushion”, consists of a thermoelectric Peltier Module used for cooling and/or heating the ambient air “The KK Module” along with various air diffusers to connect the regulated air to the animal crate or pad. The KK Module and air diffusers comes with Velcro mounting brackets, and a flexible insulating enclosure covering, to prevent heat exchange between the animal enclosure and surroundings.

Abstract:

In the electron beam lithographic system disclosed herein, a semiconductor wafer to be exposed is carried on an air bearing puck which is, on both sides, supported or located by balanced annular regions of air pressure. These annular supporting regions surround central evacuated regions which are also balanced so that the puck is not subject to large bending forces. Accordingly, the puck can be constructed to light-weight materials facilitating rapid and precise positioning of the semiconducter wafer with respect to an E-beam generating column.

This invention provides for an integrated electron optical/differential pumping/imaging signal detection system for an environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM). The ESEM includes a substantially cylindrical objective lens magnetic housing containing an axially disposed vacuum liner tube and containing means for magnetically focusing a beam of electrons passing through said liner tube. An annular ring comprised of magnetic materials abuts said magnetic housing at the lower end thereof and contains at least two pumping ports therein located axially with respect to one another. At least two annular nonmagnetic diaphragms and a final magnetic annular diaphragm are attached to the annular ring at different axial locations and extending inwardly therefrom. The diaphragms define at least two interior passages which each communicate with one of the pumping ports formed in the annular ring. A combination aperture holder and electron detector is releasably received and sealed with in the central openings of the annular diaphragms.

Abstract:

An ultrasonic medical imaging apparatus provides an ultransonic transducer constructed with polyvinylidene fluoride. Circuitry is included for generating an energizing pulse for the transducer, the pulse having a predetermined period and an instantaneous frequency which is varied from a first frequency to a second frequency during the period. Circuitry is provided for digitizing electrical signals from the transducer which electrical signals represent ultrasonic reflections received by the transducer in response to the energizing pulse, and a signal processor cross-correlates the digitized electrical signals with the energizing pulse.

Abstract:

A system and method for obtaining a nuclear kymogram of regional wall motion of an organ under study such as a human heart includes injecting a radioisotope into the blood stream which accumulates in the cardiac blood pool or myocardium. A scintillation camera having a reduced generally elongated area of data recordation is positioned overlying a selected portion of the heart and positional "events" occurring along the major axis of the area of recordation are swept across a CRT in synchronism with the ECG signal. Successive real-time displays each in synchronism with the ECG signal are accumulated to provide a nuclear kymogram.

Abstract:

The present invention is directed toward a feeder system for replenishing the melt in a crystal growing system that utilizes a heated crucible containing a pool of melted charge material from which a seen is withdrawn to grow the crystal. The feed system utilizes a storage hopper for storing solid pellets of the charge material. The storage hopper is provided with an opening at the bottom thereof which allows pellets to flow out of the hopper. A rotating plate is provided below the opening for collecting pellets that flow from the opening and enables piles of pellets to be formed thereon. A wiper is provided that extends across a portion of the plate and, as the plate is rotated, contacts the pellet piles to wipe pellets off of the plate. Thereafter, the pellets are collected and sourced to the melt to accomplish replenishment thereof.
