Abstract:

A cylindrical housing and auger drum assembly is mounted to extend from the side of a cubing machine of the type having an annular die assembly, a circular die cavity on the inner periphery of the die assembly, and at least one press wheel that is received in the die cavity. The auger drum carries a rigid blade that forms an auger flight, and which terminates a short distance from the outer end of the drum. A flexible, resilient tip is mounted on the outer end of the rigid blade, and substantially fills the space provided between the auger drum, the housing and the die cavity, the outer edge of the tip being positioned at the die cavity. The tip functions to supply an optimum flow of feed stock to the die cavity, but will flex to allow bypassing when plugging or jamming conditions exist.

A stable block is formed of shredded paper or paper-like material (herein after referred to as "paper") and a binder such as ligninsulfonate. The block is formed by shredding paper, mixing the shreds with a binder such as ligninsulfonate resin, and placing the same in a heated matrix of a die; and while in the die, subjecting the mixture to high pressure.

An orthodontic archwire having a specific, saddle-like configuration and being composed of a near-stoichiometric alloy of nickel and titanium which possesses memory retaining characteristics, the archwire having a first, second and third curved section, wherein the first and second curved sections include two different radii of curvature which extend distally from the midline of the archwire, and the third curved section includes two radii of curvature extending distally from the midline of the archwire, so that the preset form of the archwire resembles a saddle-like configuration.
