Abstract:A digital-to-analog converter that is configured to implement a scaling scheme wherein a signal level is digitally scaled before a digital-to-analog converter, and is scaled back in the analog stage of the digital-to-analog converter. The scaling normalizes the input mean power to the digital-to-analog converter. Therefore, the digital-to-analog converter has a generally constant power and no extra dynamic range is needed. Preferably, the device is configured to receive fundamental, dedicated, supplemental and pilot channels, and is configured to combine the four channels to form a single signal. The single signal is then received by a gain scaler, a shaping filter, a digital-to-analog converter, and an analog filter. The gain scaler receives the signal, and applies a first gain thereto. Then, the shaping filter receives the signal, and the signal then travels to the digital-to-analog converter wherein a second gain is applied to the signal.

Abstract:A system and method have been provided for removing high lead content solder balls from the surface of a circuit package for the purpose of rework. The invention is applicable to ball grid array (BGA), C balls, chip scale balls, and flip chip bumps. Advantageously, the room temperature solder ball rework procedure minimizes damage to the circuit package. Specifically, a thin-film stainless steel mask with openings to expose the solder balls, is formed over the circuit package, and the solder balls are removed in a shearing or grinding operation, leaving a solder ball residue. Then, a conventional thick mask film is formed and a solder paste is deposited to fill the apertures. The solder ball residue forms a wettable surface for the low temperature attachment of new solder balls.

Abstract:A periodic clock display method and system for a viewing device, such as a television set. A clock is displayed on a viewing device according to a first time interval and a second time interval. The first time interval determines how long the viewing device displays the clock. In another embodiment, a statistical value can be used to determine a forward link transmit power of a selected target base station. The RTC demodulation embodiment controls forward link transmit power of a target base station by directly demodulating an RTC or FPCC of a mobile station and obtaining power control commands.

Abstract:A direct conversion receiver (DCR) with a pair of quadrature conversion paths. Each of the quadrature conversion paths receives an RF input signal and converts the RF input signal to a digital baseband signal. The quadrature conversion paths each include a mixer mixes the RF input signal with a carrier phase signal. Quadrature baseband signals from the mixer pass through an analog filter which provides a filtered baseband signal. An analog to digital converter (ADC) converts the quadrature baseband component to a digital baseband signal. A 5order elliptical filter filters the quadrature baseband component. The 5order elliptical filter may be before or after the ADC. A digital baseband component from the ADC and filtered by the 5order elliptical filter passes to a phase equalizer which compensates for phase distortion from the analog filter. The quadrature digital baseband outputs from the quadrature conversion paths are passed to a baseband processor.

Abstract:A novel method and apparatus for performing cell selection handoffs in a wireless communication system is disclosed. The CSHO method and apparatus of the present invention determines which transmitters to temporarily disable or “gate off” during soft handoff procedures. The method and apparatus of the present invention monitors the channel conditions for all base stations in an active set of a selected mobile station and determines the relative strengths of base stations based on the monitored channel conditions. The method and apparatus of the present invention reduces interference to receivers in a wireless communication system. Specifically, the present invention temporarily disables, or “gates off” selected transmitters (e. g. , base stations) during soft handoff procedures and thereby reduces interference to receivers that are not associated with the selected transmitters. Reducing this interference increases the overall voice and data capacity in a wireless communication system.
