Following in Jane Austen's footsteps: Discover novelist's England
In the 2005 film, it is Chatsworth Keira Knightley that is referring to when she jokes that her love for Darcy dates from her "first seeing his grounds at Pemberley," but Austen expert Janet Todd, of Cambridge University's Lucy Cavendish College, says this is a mistake.
"It all testifies to the huge appeal of it," says Janet Todd, president of Lucy Cavendish College at Cambridge University in England, and the general editor of the nine-volume Cambridge Edition of the Works of Jane Austen.
Professor Janet Todd, editor for the Cambridge edition of Jane Austen, said that murder was implausible. "I doubt very much she would have been poisoned intentionally. I think it's very unlikely. But the possibility she had arsenic for rheumatism, say, is quite likely," she said. "It's certainly oddyears ago by two men (one of them, if I'm not mistaken, a Swedish dentist) delving into Napoleon's death. But murdering Jane Austen? What enemies did she have? Who stood to gain anything by her death? I agree with Janet Todd (whose books, BTW, are a joy to read) that foul play is extremely unlikely.
