A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture provide the ability to activate functionality in a set-top box. A feature authorization message is received in a set-top box. The feature authorization message comprises one or more rules to be evaluated (wherein each of the rules comprises one or more tests for a status of one or more conditional access module attributes), one or more event requirements for rule evaluation, and one or more features that are dependent by the rule evaluation result (wherein each of the one or more features represents a set of one or more abilities of hardware and/or software of the set-top box). When one or more of the event requirements have been met, the one or more rules are evaluated to obtain a result. The ability to use the one or more features are then set based on the result.
Automatic Measurement Of Audio Presence And Level By Direct Processing Of An Mpeg Data Stream
Automatic measurements are made of audio presence and level in an audio signal by direct processing of an MPEG data stream representing the audio signal, without reconstructing the audio signal. Sub-band data is extracted from the data stream, and the extracted sub-band data is dequantized and denormalized. An audio level for the dequantized and denormalized sub-band data is measured without reconstructing the audio signal. Channel characteristics are used in measuring the audio level of the sub-band data, wherein the channel characteristics are used to weight the measured levels. The measured levels are compared against at least one threshold to determine whether an alarm should be triggered.

Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for indexing a document according to identified events. An event-based indexing system includes a source interface configured to receive the document from an associated data source and format the document for processing and an indexer configured to extract event mentions from the document, with a given event mention comprising a verb and at least one of a subject and an object of the verb. A document index is configured to store the extracted event mentions such that a given document from an associated document corpus can be retrieved according to its associated event mentions
