Abstract:

A method of improving the reliability of peer-to-peer network downloads includes the steps of initiating a search from a client on a peer-to-peer network. Next, a list of servers is downloaded that satisfies the search. At least one of the servers is selected from the list of servers. Next, one of a plurality of downloading systems is selected based on a predetermined criteria. A file is downloaded using one of the plurality of downloading systems.

Abstract:

A first data packet is sent through a system under measurement (SUM) from a sender side to a receiver side. A time distance d between the first data packet and a second data packet consecutive thereto in a packet flow is observed on the sender side. A value of d is written into a payload of the second data packet. The second data packet is sent through the SUM. The first data packet and the second data packet are received on the receiver side. A time difference D between the first data packet and the second data packet is observed on the receiver side. The value of d is extracted, at the receiver side, from the payload of the second data packet. The jitter is determined based on the value of d extracted from the payload of the second data packet and the value of the time difference D.

Abstract:

A system and method are disclosed for reliable communications in a packet network. A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a network management system (NMS) having a controller programmed to establish between first and second customer edge (CE) routers in a full mesh packet network first and second logical data tunnels conforming to an isolation protocol, synchronize packet data in the first and second logical data tunnels, enable packet data exchanges between the first and second CE routers over the first logical data tunnel, direct the first and second CE routers to duplicate the packet data exchanged between them over the second logical data tunnel, and direct the first and second CE routers to synchronously switch to the second logical data tunnel upon detecting a fault in the first logical data tunnel.
