Systems and methods for high-throughput radiation biodosimetry are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, a high-throughput methods of analyzing a population for radiation exposure can include, in various possible sequences: marking a first capillary designed to retain a first sample from the population with a first identifier; transporting a plurality of samples to a biodosimetry system; inputting the samples into the biodosimetry system; centrifuging the plurality of samples including the first sample wherein each sample can be retained in a capillary and the first sample can be retained in the first capillary; transferring the plurality of capillaries including the first capillary from the centrifuge to a cutting device using a robotic device; cutting the first capillary; reading the first identifier; transferring at least one portion of the first sample from the first capillary to a well in an array, wherein the array can include one or more filters in a multi-well plate; correlating the first identifier to a location of the array that includes the at least one portion of the first sample; one or more cycles of biological processing, which can include addition of a reagent and/or incubation of a selected temperature such as, for example, 37 C. , 4 C. , room temperature, and the like; sealing the array; positioning the array adjacent to an imaging element; focusing the imaging element; capturing an image of the first sample in the array; and analyzing the image to determine whether the first sample indicates a level of radiation exposure exceeding a predetermined threshold.

A photo-reaction of tyrosine (and small tyrosyl peptides) with cetyltrimethylamonium chloride in aqueous buffer solution is described in this patent. The reactants were exposed to simulated sun irradiance of 760 W/mat 30 C.1 C. A reddish pigment was formed with the yield ranging from 60-100% in 6 hours depending on the peptides. The pigment was believed to be a melanin crossed linked with cetyltrimethylamonium chloride. Interaction between tyrosine and neighboring nitrogen containing groups was also observed. This reaction is useful for the research of some cosmetic and pharmaceutical products. It may also have other applications if other phenols and amines are used as reactants. Some advantages of this reaction include the mild reaction condition, simple procedures, and no need for oxidants, catalysts, organic solvents and heating.

Methods are provided for making a treatment composition by loading active components into a high pressure vessel and pressurizing the high pressure vessel with carbon dioxide to reach a pressure within the high pressure vessel of about 400 pounds per square inch to about 1,070 pounds per square inch. The active components can include a protein denaturant and a surfactant, and optionally an acaricide. In one particular embodiment, this method can be used to clean a substrate, by loading the substrate into the high pressure vessel prior to pressurizing with carbon dioxide. Methods are also provided for treating a substrate to clean it from dust mites by delivering dry ice particles to the substrate, and vacuuming the substrate. Methods for sterilizing a biocompatible hydrogel polymer are provided via treating the biocompatible hydrogel polymer with a supercritical COtreatment composition at a treatment pressure of about 4 MPa to about 30 MPa and a treatment temperature of about 5 C. to about 75 C. The supercritical COtreatment composition can be substantially pure COor may further include hydrogen peroxide (e.g., in an amount of about 10 ppm to about 1,000 ppm). In certain embodiments, the biocompatible hydrogel polymer can be treated with the supercritical COtreatment composition for about 30 minutes to about 5 hours. According to these methods, treating the biocompatible hydrogel polymer can kill about 90% or more of any and present in the biocompatible hydrogel polymer.
