Jim, like many of us, has had to learn to overcome many challenges and obstacles in his early life. Jim graduated with honors from both law school and college even though he had to work at various jobs to get through school. He remains teachable in all areas of life and is aware of the good that can come from being open to continually trying to improve oneself both professionally and personally. He holds an "AV" Preeminent Rating in both legal ability and ethical standards as judged by his peers, including judges, by the most valid lawyer rating organization in America, Martindale-Hubbell. He also has a "10" rating, the highest possible rating attainable, by AVVO, another well thought of lawyer ranking authority. He has authored numerous articles published in The Florida Defender Magazine, The Trial Lawyers College Journal, The Florida Bar Journal, and recently contributed an article to a West Thompson-Ruegers Publication (2012). Jim has also taught trial skills at Georgetown Law School Trial Skills Program in Washington D.C., was a faculty member at the first ever Florida Trial Lawyers College Regional Workshop, and lectured at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola FL to JAG Lawyers from the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines relating to the serious issues of child pornography possession in the computer age. Jim has been a chapter representative and board member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers for the last six years. Jim is a past President of the Northwest Florida Criminal Defense Lawyers Chapter of FACDL. He is also a "Life Member" of both the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, a member of "by invitation only" First Amendment Lawyers Association and The Florida Association of Justice (formerly the Florida Trial Lawyers Association (negligence and injury cases); Jim is also a graduate of the National College of Defense Lawyers and Gerry Spence's Trial Lawyers College. Jim is an elected alumni board member of The Trial Lawyers College for Region 10, which includes Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Jim is also a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, limited to trial lawyers in the United States who have won million and multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements relating to recovery awards for injured people. Fewer than 1% of U.S. lawyers are members.
