Abstract:

A hydrocarbon fuel such as a gasoline exhibiting substantially improved laminar burning velocity and method of making. The hydrocarbon fuel may comprise a paraffinic fraction, an olefinic fraction, and an aromatics fraction. The aromatics fraction may comprise methyl aromatics and non-methyl alkyl aromatics wherein the percentage of non-methyl alkyl aromatics in the aromatics fraction is at least 30% by volume. The fuel may comprise a methyl aromatics fraction comprising xylenes wherein the percentage of ortho- and para-xylene in the xylene fraction is at least 60% by volume.

Abstract:

This invention cools the blowing mold and the plastic article blown therein to shorten the time that a core rod must remain at a blowing station of a blow molding machine for making plastic articles. The cooling is performed by conditioned air that is dried to lower its dew point. An air curtain is used to prevent other air from contacting with and depositing moisture on the mold. In order to take advantage of the shorter time at the blowing station, an auxiliary injection device is used to also shorten the time required for the injection operation; and auxiliary cooling is supplied to the core rod at the stripper station.

Abstract:

This injection blow molding machine has special provision for maintaining the plastic of a parison on a core rod at the orientation temperature of the plastic; and stretching the plastic of the parison lengthwise of the core rod for orientation in the direction of one axis without any substantial increase in the diameter of the parison. After this orientation in one axis, the temperature is controlled to maintain an orientation temperature, and the plastic of the parison is then blown to a larger diameter so as to obtain orientation in another axis for "bi-axial orientation". The core rod is covered by an elastic balloon, and provision is made for obtaining flow of the plastic on the core rod lengthwise of the rod during the first orientation operation.

Abstract:

A plastic container having a bail handle on one side, blown as one-piece with the container, is formed by injection molding a parison with a thickened portion then blow molding in a cavity having a portion into which the thickened portion of the parison is displaced to form a handle portion. A shearing operation is then performed on the partially blown container. In this operation part of the handle portion is compressed to a flat condition and displaced from the container between the body of the container and the part of the handle portion that will constitute the actual handle of the final container. The container is then blown to its final size, preferably in a second blowing mold. The apparatus used to make the container is also novel.
