Abstract:

A method of controlling the ink feed to a printed substrate in a lithographic printing press is provided which includes providing, for each of a plurality of ink zones, an ink coverage requirement for a printing unit of the lithographic printing press; color scanning a first ink zone of a plurality of ink zones on a printed substrate as it exits the printing unit of the lithographic printing press; calculating, for each one of the plurality of ink zones, a dynamic flow change based on the static flow change for said each one of the plurality of ink zones and the ink coverage requirement for said each one of the plurality of ink zones; and providing a flow setting for each one of the plurality of ink zones based on the dynamic flow change for said each one of the plurality of ink zones.

An apparatus for the non-contacting counting of newspapers and the like which are being transported in shingled or overlapped relationship by a continuous conveyor system, which apparatus includes, a source of radiant energy positioned to direct a stream of energy against the surface of the overlapped moving papers, energy sensors positioned to receive energy reflected from the surfaces of the papers at a plurality of locations and means responsive to the output from the sensors to derive a signal indicative of the number of papers passing beneath the source of radiant energy.

Abstract:

An extension for a handle of a tool or similar device includes a hollow cylindrical shaped tube formed with a series of circumferentially spaced slots that provide intervening strips of tube material adjacent to but spaced from an open end of the tube. A manually operated clamping band encircles the strips of tube material and clamps the strip against a handle inserted into the tube bore. A second pair of circumferentially spaced slots and intervening strips of the material may be formed adjacent to the first series of strips and is encircled by another clamp for increasing the grip on a handle inserted into the tube.

In particular, each stroke is examined to determine which method of a plurality of compacting methods will produce the smallest quantity of image data, thus requiring the minimum storage area within the storage device.
