Abstract:

An adjustable leg for a chair includes a leg housing, secured to a seat, that includes a threaded inner wall. A leg extension is received into the leg housing and includes external threaded portions that mate with the threaded inner wall. A tab in the leg housing cooperates with the external threaded portions and secures the leg extension at a predefined position in the leg housing.

Abstract:

Footrest apparatus for use on a wheel chair comprises: a footrest shaft comprising two tubular members coaxially aligned to accommodate a sliding of one of the two tubular members within the other for length adjustment of the shaft. One end of the footrest shaft is attachable to a structure of the wheel chair and a footrest plate is attachable to the footrest shaft at the other end. A plurality of inline, spaced apart, diametrically opposed pairs of apertures are provided along the sides of the other tubular shaft member. The one tubular shaft member includes a pair of diametrically opposed spring loaded pins which retract into and protrude through apertures at the outer surface thereof, the pins being aligned with the diametrically opposed aperture pairs of the other shaft member. Accordingly, when the one tubular shaft member slides within the other tubular shaft member for length adjustment of the shaft, the pins retract during sliding and spring out and lock into a selected pair of apertures of the other member at a desired shaft length. The footrest apparatus may include a cam clamp attachable to the periphery of the other shaft member. The cam clamp includes a lever operative in a first position to secure the other shaft member to the one shaft member at the desired shaft length and operative in a second position to release the other shaft member from the one shaft member for shaft adjustment. A method of adjusting the footrest apparatus of the wheel chair is further disclosed.

Abstract:

A method of regulating voltage output from an alternator of a vehicle charging system is provided in response to transient alternator loads during idle speed operating conditions. The method comprises the steps of: (a) delivering a first alternator field control signal to the alternator; (b) detecting an impulse electrical load based on a variation in battery voltage; and (c) gradually increasing the alternator field control signal duty-cycle over a time period, such that the time period is based on the magnitude of the alternator field control signal duty-cycle, with respect to a maximum alternator field control signal duty-cycle, and based on the engine rotational speed of the vehicle, thereby regulating voltage output and torque load of the alternator. More specifically, the variation in battery voltage is the difference between a measured battery voltage and an average delta battery voltage, where the average delta battery voltage is indicative of the change in battery voltage over a period in time, and the duty-cycle of the alternator field control signal is incremented by a predefined amount until it reaches a maximum value or until a calculated average battery voltage is substantially equal to a predefined voltage regulator set point value. In addition, the first alternator field control signal is delayed for a preliminary period after the step of detecting a variation in battery voltage to minimize battery voltage drop.
