  • Filed:
    Aug 6, 2002
  • Appl. No.:
    10/213027
  • Inventors:
Kenneth E. Kellar - Flemington NJ
Joseph C. Richards - West Windsor NJ
Crystal A. Nesbitt - Bridgewater NJ
  • Assignee:
    FMC Corporation - Philadelphia PA
  • International Classification:
    C11D 348
  • US Classification:
    510382, 510536
  • Abstract:
An aqueous composition suitable for use as a high-retention sanitizer, especially on irregular and/or non-horizontal surfaces and surfaces on which water does not readily spread, a method for sanitizing a surface using the composition, and kits comprising components of the composition. The composition contains an organic peracid, preferably peracetic acid, or other antimicrobial agent, and a retention aid. The retention aid preferably is provided as a concentrate for admixture with the antimicrobial agent at point of use and comprises a mixture of a non-ionic surfactant, an ionic surfactant, and optionally a water-soluble magnesium ion source; or a mixture of a biopolymer thickening agent and at least one surfactant, and optionally a water-soluble magnesium ion source. In either retention aid, the magnesium ion source stabilizes foams formed from the retention aids in hard water and maintains retention aidconcentrates in a liquid state at room temperature if one of the surfactants is sodium lauryl sulfate, or magnesium lauryl sulfate or mixture thereof. The composition is preferably applied as a foam to the surface of the object to be sanitized.
  • Rapid Dilution Of Peracid Solutions To Equilibrated Solutions

    view source
  • US Patent:
    8029693, Oct 4, 2011
  • Filed:
    Jan 30, 2009
  • Appl. No.:
    12/362873
  • Inventors:
Emmanuel A. Dada - Bensalem PA, US

  • Assignee:
    FMC Corporation - Philadelphia PA
  • International Classification:
    C07F 5/02
  • US Classification:
    25218212, 562 6
  • Abstract:
A method for the rapid dilution of an aqueous peracid solution, particularly, peracetic acid, in which a concentrated peracid solution is diluted with an aqueous diluent to produce a more dilute peracid solution in which the solution components are already at equilibrium immediately after dilution. The peracid in a preferred embodiment of this method is peracetic acid, for which the aqueous diluent is acetic acid and water, or hydrogen peroxide and water, or acetic acid, hydrogen peroxide and water, whose relative amounts are selected to produce a diluted aqueous peracid acid solution whose peracetic acid, hydrogen peroxide and acetic acid components are in equilibrium immediately after dilution.

The compositions are particularly useful for sanitizing or bleaching at an acid or neutral pH compared with other chlorine or peroxygen bleach compounds.
  • Method For Distributing An Aqueous Solution Containing A Peroxygen In Clay

    view source
  • US Patent:
    47477288, May 31, 1988
  • Filed:
    Aug 25, 1986
  • Appl. No.:
    6/900048
  • Inventors:
Robert D. Norris - East Windsor NJ
Richard A. Brown - Lawrenceville NJ
Joseph C. Richards - Robbinsville NJ
  • Assignee:
International Technology Corporation - Torrence CA
  • International Classification:
    E02D 312
  • US Classification:
    405263
  • Abstract:
The present invention is a method for distributing a colloid-free, aqueous solution containing a peroxygen compound in a particulate matter containing clay without causing the clay to swell. It has been found that hydrogen peroxide alone causes swelling of clays. It is well-known that monovalent ions cause clays to disperse and swell. It is unexpected to find that perborate and persulfate anions do not cause clays to swell, even in the presence of sodium ions. The process is useful for enhancing the biodegradation of contaminants in clayey soils or for winning mineral values from clayey ore deposits.

  • International Classification:
    C09K 700
    C09K 704
  • US Classification:
    252 855R
  • Abstract:
The invention provides a method to liquify a heavy brine completion fluid containing chlorides. The combination of a persulfate and hydrogen peroxide was found to be more effective than either compound alone, or than a peroxygen plus an activator.
