Abstract:

Infectious human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) were isolated in vitro from a pool of randomized sequences after sixteen or 21 cycles of selection and amplification. The ligands characterized exhibited high HCMV-binding affinity in vitro and effectively inhibited viral infection in tissue culture. Several ligands blocked viral entry. Their antiviral activity was also specific as the ligands only reacted with strains of HCMV, but not with the related herpes simplex virus 1 and human cells. Moreover, the ligands recognize several different epitopes. Thus, RNA ligands can function to bind to a human virus and block viral infection. The screening method may utilize the novel features of binding to intact infectious virus, partitioning the bound polynucleotides from unbound by passing through a porous filter, and enhancing the release of bound polynucleotides by treatment with protease.

Abstract:

Highly ordered anodic TiOnanotube arrays fabricated by electrochemical anodization and sensitized with dye to yield dye-sensitized TiOnanotube solar cells is described. With inorganic compound (such as TiCl) treatment, in conjunction with oxygen plasma exposure under optimized conditions, dye-sensitized TiOnanotube solar cells produced using TiOnanotube arrays exhibited a pronounced power conversion efficiency.

Abstract:

Techniques to schedule activities. In one method, a request to book an appointment for an activity in a particular schedule is initially received. In response, time slots available in the schedule for booking the activity are determined, and a set (all or a subset) of the time slots is provided as possible appointment choices. The time slots in the set are temporarily locked. A next set of time slots or more time slots may be requested (if the time slots provided are not acceptable or desirable), in which case additional time slots may be provided. Thereafter, a selection for one of the time slots is received. In response, the activity is booked in the selected time slot and previously locked time slots are released. The locked time slots may also be released if no selection is received after a particular amount of time.

Abstract:

To perform pattern-based detection of malicious URLs, patterns are first generated from known URLs to build a pattern repository. A URL is first normalized and parsed, and keywords are extracted and stored in an additional repository of keywords. Tokens are then determined from the parsed URL and tags are associated with the parsed substrings. Substring text may also be replaced with general identifying information. Patterns generated from known malicious and benign URLs satisfying certain criteria are published to a pattern repository of which can be accessed during subsequent detection operations. During detection, upon identifying a request which indicates an unknown URL, the URL is parsed and tokenized to generate a pattern. The repository of malicious URL patterns is queried to determine if a matching malicious URL pattern can be identified. If a matching malicious URL pattern is identified, the URL is detected as malicious.
