Abstract:

Provided herein is a microfluidic device and related method for controlling flow of different fluid components of a fluid. The microfluidic device comprises an input channel, focusing channel and an assaying channel. The microfluidic device is adapted to separate a fluid into at least two fluid components, and is further adapted to detect a target material comprised within one of the fluid components. The method comprises providing a channel, the channel having a dimension which is a function of a dimension of one of the fluid components and deliver the fluid through the channel at a set flow rate.

Abstract:

Neuro-enhancing agents, compositions and methods are disclosed herein. Preferred neuro-enhancing agents of the present invention include progesterone and metabolites of progesterone, such as 3α-hydroxy-5α-pregnan-20-one (THP). These agents yield neuro-enhancing effects on neural cells that include neural progenitor and/or stem cells, whereby the agents stimulate mitosis of neural progenitor cells, stimulate neurite growth and organization, protect against neural loss, or one or more of these neural processes. Thus, the neuro-enhancing agents, compositions and methods disclosed herein are useful to reverse or prevent neurological disease or defects associated with neural loss or degeneration, such as Alzheimer's disease, neurological injuries, including injuries resulting from radiation therapy, and age-related neurological decline, including impairments in memory and learning.

Abstract:

A video sequence may include a modality corresponding with an embedded pattern. At least one state machine detects the modality in accordance with difference signals. A signal generator generates the difference signals responsive to decision windows that define regions of interest in the video sequence. The modality may correspond with an embedded film source or other pattern types in the video sequence. Where the state machine detects more than one pattern, a single pattern is selected according to a predetermined priority. The video sequence may contain both static patterns and embedded film source patterns. The state machine discerns the presence of the embedded film source patterns notwithstanding the presence of the static patterns.
