Abstract:
A stent for use in a patients blood vessel to maintain the patency of the vessel contains strategically located radiopaque material. The strategic placement of the radiopaque material in the core structure of the stent functions to enhance the resolution of the stent under fluoroscopy. The initial part of the process includes forming a groove in a piece of tube stock and securing radiopaque material into the groove by press fitting or diffusion bonding. After the securing method, a layer of material can be sputtered coated over the only radiopaque material or over the entire stent. Finally, a pattern of struts and splines is cut into the tube composite to form the stent.

Abstract:
An intravascular stent having struts which overlap, at least partially, when the stent is compressed. The overlapping struts allow the stent to be crimped to a smaller initial delivery diameter than may be achieved with non-overlapping designs for given metal density. The stent has a reduced delivery diameter which allows for the construction of reduced profile stent-delivery systems, which thereby allow for the stenting of smaller vessels than has heretofore been possible.

Abstract:
The present invention provides an improved stent design for repairing a vessel. The stent design incorporates crimpable, short non-linear links which are flexible in three dimensions and which include flexible arms. The ability to accommodate both small deformations that occur during delivery and larger deformations that occur upon expansion within the vessel is enhanced without sacrificing stent crimp diameter. The link may incorporate a short flexible link with a perpendicular transition to provide added flexibility.

Abstract:
An implantable prosthesis, for example a stent, is provided having one or more elements that form the body structure of the prosthesis. The elements have a width that is variable from a nominal or conventional width to an increased width. Depots are formed in the elements and are generally located at the increased width portions of the elements. The diameter of the depots is based on a percentage of the width of the element. As such, the depots have increased drug-loading capabilities. Substances such as therapeutic substances, polymeric materials, polymeric materials containing therapeutic substances, radioactive isotopes, and radiopaque materials can be deposited into the depots. Further, the variable width of the elements ensures that sufficient material surrounds each depot so as not to compromise the structural integrity of the prosthesis.

Abstract:
A polymeric material such as polyurethane, PET, or ePTFE is used to cover an intravascular stent. The cover material has an overlapping portion which is slidable upon itself so that when the stent is expanded, the cover material does not contribute to stent foreshortening, if any. The cover material can be provided with holes to permit endothelialization and can be drug loaded to facilitate repair of a damaged vessel.

Abstract:
A vessel harvesting system that is suitable for harvesting target vessels such as the saphenous vein or radial artery for cardiac artery bypass graft surgery. The system includes a vessel harvesting tool with an elongated cannula and a plurality of surgical instruments therein for separating the target vessels from the surrounding tissue and side branches. The harvesting tool includes a modular handle unit with a base attached to the elongated cannula and a sled that can adapt the base to various types of vessel severing/securing tools, such as tissue welders, bipolar scissors, and bipolar bisectors. The handle unit may be relatively rigid and integrated with the various tool movement controls to facilitate one-handed operation by a user. A severing/securing tool rotation mechanism may be incorporated within the handle and operated by a thumbwheel or other such mechanism. The vessel harvesting system may also provide distal COinsufflation for enhanced maintenance of the operating cavity.
