A process for forming full color images using a photosensitive material which includes a support having a layer of photosensitive microcapsules on the surface thereof, said photosensitive microcapsules including a first, a second and a third set of microcapsules uniformly distributed on said surface; said first set of microcapsules contains a cyan image-forming agent and a first photohardenable composition sensitive in a first wavelength band, said second set of microcapsules containing a magenta image-forming agent and a second photohardenable composition sensitive in a second wavelength band, and said third set of microcapsules containing a yellow image-forming agent and a third photohardenable composition sensitive in a third wavelength band; said process comprising the steps of: uniformly exposing said photosensitive material to radiation within at least one of said first, second, and third wavelength bands in an amount sufficient to sequester oxygen present in said microcapsules and thereby adjust the gamma of at least one of said first, second and third sets of microcapsules such that it more closely approximates the gamma of the other of said microcapsules; image-wise exposing said photosensitive material to radiation within said first, second and third wavelength bands; and subjecting said microcapsules to a uniform rupturing force to cause said microcapsules to rupture and release image-wise said cyan, magenta and yellow image-forming agents.

Abstract:
A process for producing photosensitive microcapsules having an extended dynamic range and the microcapsules produced thereby are disclosed; the process includes: (a) providing an emulsion of a multiplicity of droplets of an internal phase in a continuous phase; said internal phase including a photohardenable or photosoftenable composition and an image-forming agent wherein the composition of said internal phase incrementally or continuously varies; and (b) forming a wall around said droplets.

Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a method for preparing microcapsules which comprises: preparing an aqueous dispersion or emulsion of a hydrophobic oily core material containing a polyvalent isocyanate, a polyvalent isothiocyanate, or an adduct thereof, having an anionic moiety; and forming capsule walls around the droplets of said oily core material.

Abstract:
A photographic material exhibiting improved photographic characteristics comprising a photographic material comprising a support having a layer of microcapsules thereon, and an image-forming agent being associated with said microcapsules, said microcapsules including a mixture of a first subset of microcapsules and a second subset of microcapsules, said first and second subsets of microcapsules being associated with an image-forming agent for the same color, and said first subset of microcapsules providing a higher film speed than said second subset of microcapsules when said first and second subsets of microcapsules are exposed to a broad band white light source and developed under identical conditions.

US Classification:

Abstract:
A process for preparing microcapsules which comprises dispersing a hydrophobic oily liquid in a continuous aqueous phase, the hydrophobic oily liquid containing a pre-wall former and at least one chain extender, the chain extender being a polyhydric compound which is capable of reacting with the pre-wall former at a rate such that the chain extender does not substantially react with the pre-wall former prior to dispersing the hydrophobic oily liquid in the continuous aqueous phase; and forming capsule walls around the droplets of hydrophobic oily liquid in the continuous aqueous phase.

Abstract:
A method for forming a full color photosensitive material in a single batch and the material produced thereby is disclosed. The method includes dispersing three internal phases, each containing a different color-forming agent in a continuous solution to form an emulsion, and thereafter forming mirocapsule walls around each of the internal phases. The invention is particularly characterized by the use of an agent to control intermixing of the internal phases.
