Abstract:In a network, a query originator injects queries of network devices into the network at a query node using query messages. The network transports the query messages to the network devices, or to network nodes at which queries about the network devices can be answered. Query responses from the network devices or network nodes are directed through the network to a collection node or nodes. As an internal network node receives multiple query responses from network devices, the internal network node might aggregate, as needed, the multiple query responses into an aggregated query response that preferably occupies less bandwidth than the aggregated multiple query responses. Where the result desired at the collection node is a computed function of the multiple query responses, the computed function can be performed at each internal network node on the multiple query responses received at that node, thus distributing the computation needed to form a collected response to the query. Queries might request real-time or non-real-time responses and queries might request one response, periodic responses or one response for each occurrence of an event. The internal network nodes might store lookup tables, or access a centralized lookup table, that specify details of queries, thus obviating the need for each query message to carry all of the necessary details of the query.

Abstract:Methods and apparatus for locating a dense and isolated sub-graph from a weighted graph having multiple nodes and multiple weighted edges are described. Each node in the weighted graph represents an object. Each weighted edge in the weighted graph connects two nodes and represents the relationship between the two objects represented by the two corresponding nodes. To located the sub-graph, first, an auxiliary weighted graph is constructed using the weighted graph and three coefficients: α, β, and γ, where α, β, and γ are greater than 0, α influences the number of nodes inside the sub-graph, β influences the sum of the weights associated with the edges connecting a node inside the sub-graph and a node outside the sub-graph, and γ influences the sum of the weights associated with the edges connecting two nodes both inside the sub-graph, and by adding a source node s and a sink node t. Next, the auxiliary weighted graph is partitioned into two parts using the s-t minimum cut algorithm. The sub-graph is the part associated with the sink node t in its original form, with the original undirected edges and unmodified edge weights and excluding the sink node t and all the new edges added during the construction of the auxiliary weighted graph.

Abstract:A system and method to identify target node graphs from predetermined seed node subsets are described. A one-sided constrained spectral embedding of a graph using a predetermined set of seed nodes within the graph is computed. Next, a threshold boundary is identified to define a target area for a target subgraph within the embedded graph using predetermined network-flow calculations, the target subgraph including the predetermined set of seed nodes. Abstract:An improved system and method is provided for clustering objects using indexes for a matrix representing a collection of objects. Objects to be clustered may be represented as a rectangular matrix. An index may be created for accessing the rows of the matrix and an inverted index may be created for accessing the columns of the matrix based upon the connectivity of the edges between rows and columns of the matrix. Each node represented by a row may be joined to a nearest node represented by another row to produce disjoint sets of nodes. The disjoint sets of nodes may represent clusters that may then be output for use by an application. Moreover, the objects to be clustered may be clusters of objects that may be correlated into a hierarchy of clusters of objects.

Abstract:Methods and apparatuses relate to hosting an inverted index for term-based document searching. According to disclosed aspects, each bank of a plurality of banks receives a plurality of Document IDentifiers (DocIDs) in the inverted index, and within each bank, posting lists for each term are determined large or small. DocIDs for large posting lists are distributed among computers in a bank while responsibility for producing DocIDs identifiers in a small posting list are distributed by term to one or fewer computers in the bank. During operation, each term of a query is distributed to each bank, and then for small terms, only those computers assigned responsibility for a given term need to search for responsive DocIDs. DocIDs can be redistributed among computers in a bank such that results are presented from the computers that would have produced those results in a cluster having a pure DocIDs distribution scheme.
