Advanced Cardiovascular Systems, Inc. - Santa Clara CA
International Classification:
A61F 206
US Classification:
623 142, 623 143, 623 115, 623 237
Abstract:
An implantable prosthesis, for example a stent, is provided that is capable of being loaded with substances. In one example, the prosthesis is a cylindrical-shaped body having depots or pores formed thereon. The depots can be formed at preselected locations on the body of the prosthesis and can have a preselected depth, size, and shape. The depots can have various shapes including a cylindrical or a conical shape. Substances such as therapeutic substances, polymeric materials, polymeric materials containing therapeutic substances, radioactive isotopes, and radiopaque materials can be deposited into the depots.
System And Method Of Validating Equalizer Training

International Classification:
H03H 730
US Classification:
375231, 375232, 375350, 708305, 708323
Abstract:
Equalizer training is validated by techniques to detect false training. The validation techniques involve checking the unique time domain energy shaping of a plurality of taps of a trained equalizer of a modem for good training. The energy measure for each equalizer tap of the plurality of taps is approximated by summing the magnitude of a real component and a magnitude of an imaginary component of an equalizer coefficient corresponding to the equalizer tap. A tap with a highest approximate energy (i. e. , the main tap) is then determined. Next, the main tap energy is compared to a main tap threshold and a predetermined guarding threshold. The plurality of taps are arranged in a time index ordered sequence. In determining the main tap threshold, a first energy sum of a beginning set of taps in the sequence is compared with a second energy sum of a last set of taps in the sequence. The lesser tap energy sum between the first energy sum and the second energy sum is the main tap threshold.
Method For Etching A Micropatterned Microdepot Prosthesis
An implantable prosthesis, for example a stent, is provided having one or more micropatterned microdepots formed in the stent. Depots are formed in the prosthesis via chemical etching and laser fabrication methods, including combinations thereof. They are formed at preselected locations on the body of the prosthesis and have a preselected depth, size, and shape. The depots can have various shapes including a cylindrical, a conical or an inverted-conical shape. Substances such as therapeutic substances, polymeric materials, polymeric materials containing therapeutic substances, radioactive isotopes, and radiopaque materials can be deposited into the depots.
Method And Apparatus For Quick Startup In A Half-Duplex Modem System
Li Chen - Stanford CA Keith Chu - Laguna Niguel CA
Assignee:
Conexant Systems, Inc. - Newport Beach CA
International Classification:
H04M 1100
US Classification:
37910017, 37910001, 370292, 375222
Abstract:
A half-duplex facsimile modem system according to the present invention may exhibit a shorter startup time relative to conventional systems. The modem system exchanges capabilities information concurrently with the transmission of a conventional answer signal, thus obviating the need for performing a separate capabilities exchange procedure. In addition, the modem system is capable of determining a preferred training sequence duration based upon one or more characteristics of the current channel. The preferred training sequence duration is communicated from the answer modem to the calling modem such that the calling modem can format the training sequence in an appropriate manner. The resultant training sequence has a time duration that is variable in response to, e. g. , the signal-to-noise ratio of the instant channel. These techniques can result in a significant reduction in the startup latency typically associated with conventional half-duplex facsimile modem systems.

US Classification:
385 24, 385 31, 385 33, 359115, 359122
Abstract:
An optical multiplexing and demultiplexing device includes: a fiber mounting means for securing a plurality of optical fibers each terminating in a fiber end, at least one of the fiber ends radiating a corresponding input beam having a polarization state defined by a polarization plane that may vary as a function of time, and at least one of the fiber ends for receiving an output beam; collimating and focusing means having a focal length, and providing collimation of the input beams, and focusing of the output beams; diffraction means including at least one diffractive element providing for dispersion of optical beams passing therethrough, each diffractive element having an associated diffraction efficiency that varies as a function of the polarization state of light beams passing therethrough; and a polarization rotating means for rotating the plane of polarization of a beam passing therethrough by a specified number of degrees. The device provides for a particular input beam having a first polarization state to be diffracted by the diffractive elements in accordance with a first diffraction efficiency based on the first polarization state. The beam is then passed through the polarization rotating means at least once and thereby rotated into a second polarization state.

International Classification:

US Classification:
2502012, 2502014, 25055929, 396 89
Abstract:
An autofocus system for maintaining a sample in the focal plane of a primary lens is disclosed. A light source generates a monitor beam which is focused onto the sample through the primary lens. The reflected beam passes back through the primary lens and is directed to a secondary lens. The beam is then split by a reflective wedge into two portions with different path lengths such that the beam waists of the two portions are spatially separated. An aperture is located between the two beam waists. A bi-cell photodetector measures the intensity of the two beam portions transmitted by the aperture. The measured intensity levels vary with respect to the position of the sample. By comparing the measured intensity levels, an indication of the position of the sample can be obtained.
